Elizabeth Gregg called the meeting with information from the EOD (Cheryl (Sharon) Gonzalez, Director of EOD). There was a question how we recruit adjuncts. This was discussed and the consensus was that adjuncts were recruited by networking and word of mouth. This could be viewed as problematic due to legal complications. It was determined that this would be referred to HR through Academic Affairs to develop a process to recruit adjunct faculty across the University.
Faculty Association Handbook needs to have affirmative action deleted and insert equal opportunity - Elizabeth Gregg will take complete this action.
Office of Faculty Enhancement recommended a teaching workshop for adjuncts:
How can they make it more effective moving forward?
What items should be included in an adjunct orientation?
Recommendations from Committee:
First option is to invite the adjuncts to the regular full-time faculty orientation, second option is a podcast or some other type of on-line orientation be developed for the adjuncts.
Additional new faculty network checklist could be used for adjuncts and place a NA in items that do not apply or the check list could be modified to meet the needs of the adjunct for orientation.
The committee will request to speak with Dan Richard, Director of the Office of Faculty Enhancement about orientation for adjuncts and ask for assistance and ideas.
EOD postings can get official posting from each college/department, need a contact person to keep the posting current.
Will look at getting data from other universities such as UWF but not sure who said they would do this?
