Minutes of Meeting

Academic Standards Committee Friday, September 29, 2017 at 12:00 PM

Call to Order:

The meeting was called to order at 12:00 PM by Alan Harris, chair.

Members Present:

Krista Paulsen, Scott Hochwald ,Linda Connelly, Diane Tanner and Alan Harris

  • Approval of the Minutes
    Minutes from the September 1, 2017 meeting were unanimously approved after corrected the spelling of a name.
  • New Business
    • Members of the Intercollegiate Athletic Committee attended the meeting to discuss a proposed attendance policy change that they had forwarded to the ASC.
      • The policy is intended to clarify the existing policy to ensure that any student missing an exam or quiz for a university-sanctioned event is provided the opportunity to make-up the exam or quiz.
      • The committee held an extended conversation on this topic and the members of the ASC agreed to modify the wording of the proposed change and return the policy to the ASC.
      • The ASC will review this change at their next meeting.
    • Diane Tanner brought up several recommended changes to the current Early Academic Alert Referral form. Several fields on this form are not really necessary. The registrar’s office will update the online form.
    • The committee discussed the process for appeals for students who are suspended or expelled from a program for violation of a “professional standard”. Currently any appeal on this suspension or expulsion remains in unit. The committee agreed to look at developing a policy which includes an out of unity hearing for the appeal.

    The meeting adjourned at 1:00 PM.
