Resolution on the Presidential Search

The resolution passes with amended language from applicants to candidates.

                            Resolution on the Presidential Search                    

WHEREAS, faculty members with extensive classroom, research, and academic leadership experience are best prepared to lead the university in the development of academic, scholarly, and creative programs that will improve the student experience;

 

WHEREAS,  the presidential position advertisement states "The University president should possess the academic credentials needed to secure the respect of faculty";

WHEREAS,  the presidential  position advertisement states that "Research at the University of North Florida is increasingly dynamic" and references our Scholarship Statement that emphasizes our commitment to and the importance of scholarship;

WHEREAS, the importance of UNF's faculty, curricula, and programs of UNF cannot be overstated;

WHEREAS,  UNF faculty have expressed in a number of ways their desire for strong academic leadership and academic visioning; 

 

WHEREAS,  the new UNF strategic plan specifically states that UNF will “Encourage and support innovative and strategic areas for growth in teaching and research (including scholarship/creative activity) across the campus”;


THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that,
the UNF Faculty Association urges the Board of Trustees to favor those remaining candidates for UNF President who hold a tenured faculty line in a position of Vice President for Academic Affairs or Dean of a College.
