The University of North Florida is desirous of providing recognition forrecognizes the importance of adjunct faculty who perform meritoriously in teaching. To that end, the university has made appropriations for Outstanding Adjunct Teaching Awards to be given in the Spring semester in recognition of excellence in teaching achieved during the past three calendar (including summer) terms. Academic Affairs reserves the right to not provide the monetary award to any winner who is not a UNF employee at the time if the Fall convocation, when the award is made. The University of North Florida has allocated the available funds for this fiscal year in the following manner:
EligibilityAny member of the UNF adjunct
teaching faculty or clinical adjunct with classroom responsibilities, who has held a faculty appointment as an
adjunct instructor or clinical supervisor for at least one semester
during each of the three previous calendar years at UNF, and who has taught at least six (6)
courses/section during that time is
eligible to be nominated for these awards. Clinical Supervision does not equate
to course instruction for the purpose of this award. Former Full-time UNF
faculty are not eligible for this award. No winner of an Outstanding Adjunct
Teaching Award shall be eligible to win another Outstanding Adjunct Teaching
Award until the FIFTH year
following receipt of the last award. Nomination
Any person within the University community (students, alumni, faculty, staff or administrators) may nominate an adjunct faculty member for these awards. Nominations must be in writing and signed by the nominator, sent via E-mail to email@example.com, or posted through the WEB site at www.unf.edu/unffa/. Written nominations are to be delivered, preferably by hand, to the Faculty Association Office. The nomination should consist of a simple factual statement ("I wish to nominate _________, department of __________________, for the Outstanding Adjunct Teaching Awards.") and should not consist of an argument on behalf of, or a rationale for, the candidacy of the nominee. The deadline for receipt of all nominations is no later than Thursday, October 6, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. It is the responsibility of the nominator to ensure that his/her nomination is delivered prior to the deadline. The President of the Faculty Association shall keep a list of all nominees and send a letter of confirmation of the nomination to each nominee and his/her chair, after the close of nominations.The President of the Faculty Association shall, in cooperation with the Deans of the respective Colleges, confirm the eligibility of each nominee, no later than Monday, October 17, 2016 at 5 PM.The President of the Faculty Association shall also keep a list of all nominees declared to be eligible and send a letter of confirmation of eligibility to each eligible nominee and his/her chair. In addition, the President of the Faculty Association shall notify those nominees who were not declared to be eligible.
The nominees have two weeks from the date of notification to email all required application materials to the Faculty Association office: firstname.lastname@example.org. Nominees must consolidate all of the application materials into ONE PDF file, which must be attached to your email. Each candidate must submit an application checklist – on the first page of the submitted application, along with the Statement of Accuracy -- that confirms that he/she followed the application guidelines. Each candidate must sign1 the Application Checklist and Statement of Accuracy.If applications deviate from these guidelines, the application will be eliminated.
____ The Curriculum Vita is a maximum of five pages and consists of my teaching accomplishments and any scholarship and/or service directly related to my teaching during the past three calendar years. ____ The list of courses taught at least one semester during the past three calendar years is presented on a single page. The list contains course number, course name, number of credit hours, and student enrollment.____ The teaching narrative is a maximum of three pages and provides a discussion of my teaching philosophy and my most significant teaching accomplishments during the past three calendar years.____The application materials shall not include ISQ raw data, course syllabi, handouts, teaching evaluations, or other appendices. However, summaries of ISQ results may be included in the three-page narrative. ____Standard margins (1-inch or 1.25 inch) and 11 or 12-point font are used for all materials presented in application. ____ Signed “Application Checklist and Statement of Accuracy” (1 page)____ Vita (5 pages)____ List of courses (1 page)____ Discussion (3 pages)
Nominees who submit materials that are not kept strictly within these guidelines or fail to submit all materials to the Faculty Association Email Address (email@example.com) by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, November 14, 2016, will not be considered further.
The President of the Faculty Association will collect all PDF copies of the completed Nominee Materials and forward the materials to each of the appropriate Colleges for screening. The President of the Faculty Association will also keep a list of all nominees whose materials have been forwarded to the Colleges.
Each of the Colleges shall elect a College Screening Committee to screen nominees and name finalists for the Outstanding Adjunct Teaching Awards. Only regular teaching faculty holding the rank of Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor will be eligible to serve on this Committee. If colleges do not conform to this guideline, their nominees will not be considered further. The College Committee shall screen the nominations of those who have been declared to be eligible by the Dean’s Office. In the event a nominee is not affiliated with one of the Colleges, the faculty member should submit his or her materials to the College in which his or her discipline would normally reside.The College Committee shall name up to four finalists for the Outstanding Adjunct Teaching Awards. By Friday, January 13, 2017 at noon, names of the College Finalists shall be returned to the President of the Faculty Association, who will deliver the materials of the College Finalists to the Chairperson of the Adjunct Affairs committee. This committee will serve as the selection committee for the Adjunct Teaching Awards. In addition, the President of the Faculty Association shall notify those nominees who were not selected as finalists.
The Adjunct Teaching Award University Selection Committee will be composed of 8 members of the Adjunct Affairs Committee. No person who is a nominee for the Outstanding Adjunct Teaching Award or who is related to any nominee, may serve on this committee; in such cases, the constituency such a person represents shall elect a substitute representative.The Adjunct Teaching Award University Selection Committee will make the final choices from among the finalists forwarded from each of the Colleges. The Committee will make its final decisions based only upon the Nominee Materials which accompany the forwarded nominations. The Committee may request clarification regarding a finalist, either verbal or written, if desired. Such information may be provided by the appropriate College Committee representative. There will be no verbal presentations by the finalists nor campaigns on behalf of the finalists. The Committee shall make its decisions solely on the basis of the nominee's merits, and without consideration for other such factors as departmental or college affiliation of present nominees or past award winners. No proxy voting will be allowed.It will be the responsibility of the Adjunct Teaching Awards University Selection Committee Chairperson to notify by letter any finalists who have not been selected after the committee has concluded its deliberations. The Chairperson of the Adjunct Affairs Committee will also send a letter via the Faculty Association to the Office of Academic Affairs identifying the Four (4) winners of the Outstanding Adjunct Teaching Awards. Winners of the Outstanding Adjunct Teaching Award shall be notified by a letter signed jointly by the chairperson of the selection committee and President of the Faculty Association. Formal recognition of winners shall occur at the UNF Fall Convocation.
