Course Description:

This course provides the teacher candidate with a culminating practicum allowing them to demonstrate knowledge of the components of literacy, as well as assessments and data analysis. The teacher candidate will further implement a comprehensive research-based literacy plan of instruction for all students using the systematic problem solving process. The course is designed to fulfill the requirements of Competency 5 in the Florida Reading Endorsement. LAE3211 Literacy Instruction and Assessment or EEX3250 Reading Methods for Learners with Exceptionalities is a prerequisite.

International Education Certificate (Undergraduate)

Summary of the Changes:

The International Education Certificate allows undergraduate students to explore global educational issues with a special emphasis on teaching children with diverse learning needs, including children with exceptional educational needs, English Language Learners, and children of poverty. The certificate consists of a minimum of 15 credits with at least one required study abroad internship, practicum, or independent study (e.g., Belize, England, China, Africa). No additional resources will be necessary.

Summary of the Changes:
As per BOG request, program faculty members are revising the Exceptional Student Education program from 126 to As per BOG request, program faculty members are revising the Exceptional Student Education program from 126 to 120 total hours. Therefore, a removal of six-credit hours at the upper level is necessary in order for the program to be in compliance. Two three-credit hour courses are being removed: They are EDF 4444: Assessment of Learning and Behavior; and RED 3310: Teaching Reading as a Process. The Florida Department of Education's required professional competencies included in these courses will be integrated into current curriculum.
