The Call for
Proposals for the Third Annual UNF International Research Symposium has ended, but you can read it below:
third annual interdisciplinary UNF International Research Symposium will take
place on Friday, December 6, 2019, Noon–3 PM, in Ballrooms A & B on the
third floor of Student Union West. All
UNF undergraduate and graduate students are invited to present their research on international
topics. Proposals dealing with digital projects are welcome. Students may
also propose presentations that reflect critically or creatively upon
learning that took place as part of study abroad experiences, including internships
(reflections on internships with an international focus undertaken in the US,
such as those that involve work with immigrant populations, also eligible).
presentations will be given as posters. If you have never presented a poster
before, this is a great opportunity to discover this interactive format. The
Office of Undergraduate Research can provide guidance on poster preparation and
can print your poster at a discounted rate (approximately $26 plus tax). On the
day of the event, you will display your poster (display boards and materials
for mounting posters will be provided) and speak one-on-one with attendees
about your research (or your study abroad experiences). You are welcome to also
display multimedia material on a laptop.
presentations are a type of professional experience that students can include
on their resumes and discuss when interviewing for academic and career
opportunities. They are also excellent practice for gaining confidence in
public speaking and learning how to communicate complex ideas in a direct
and concise fashion—skills that can give job applicants and
graduate school candidates a competitive edge.
require the following: The name, program of study (undergraduate major or
graduate program), and email addresses of all presenters (presentations may be
done individually or in groups); a title (20 words max.); an abstract (250
words max.), and the name and professional title of any faculty mentor(s), as
may be submitted in Chinese, English, French, German, or Spanish. Posters may
be prepared in any of these languages, and on the day of the event,
participants may speak with conference attendees in any combination of these
languages. Students desiring to submit a proposal and present in a language other
than those listed should consult first with Dr. Clayton McCarl, associate
professor of Spanish and director of the International Studies Program. For
presentations that will take place in a language other than English,
participants will be asked to provide an English translation of the title and
abstract for inclusion in the conference program.
