Members of the University of North Florida Board of Trustees are appointed by the Governor (6 members) and by the Board of Governors (5 members). These 11 appointments are subject to confirmation by the Senate. The remaining 2 members are the chair of the Faculty Association and the president of Student Government. The appointed members serve staggered 5-year terms.
Doug Burnett, of Saint Augustine, has been the president of Doug Burnett Associates since 2010. He is a retired Adjutant General of Florida. Major General Burnett has been a member of St. Johns River Water Management District governing Board since 2013 and previously served as a member of the Florida State College of Jacksonville District Board of Trustees from 2011 to 2012. He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Southern Mississippi. Major General Burnett was appointed to the University of North Florida Board of Trustees by Governor Scott July 2, 2015, for a term ending January 2020.
of Jacksonville, was named
president and chief executive officer of United Continental September 2015. Just
prior to United, he was president and chief executive officer of CSX Corporation.
At CSX, he was responsible for operations, sales and marketing, human
resources, labor relations, service design, information technology, purchasing
and other administrative functions. Mr. Munoz joined CSX in
2003 as executive vice president and chief financial officer, and was appointed
chief operations officer in 2012. Before joining CSX, Mr. Munoz served as chief financial
officer and vice president of AT&T Consumer Services. He also has held key
executive positions with other consumer products companies including the
Coca-Cola Company and Pepsico Corporation. Mr. Munoz was a member of
the board of directors and chair of the Audit Committee for United Continental
Airlines. He is a member of the board of directors for Outward Bound USA. He
has twice been recognized – in 2001 and 2006 – as one of the 100 most
influential Hispanics by Hispanic Business magazine. Mr. Munoz is actively engaged in the United Way of
Northeast Florida. He earned a B.A. from the University of Southern California
in 1982, and a M.B.A. at Pepperdine University. Mr. Munoz was appointed to the
UNF Board of Trustees by the Board of Governors in 2010 for a term ending
January 2015. He was reappointed for a term ending January 2020.
Prior to this appointment, Gonzalez held several leadership roles including Associate Administrator for Minority Small Business and Capital Ownership Development at the SBA; Regional Director for the Department of Commerce, Minority Business Development Agency in Atlanta, Georgia; Staff Director with the U. S. Commission on Civil Rights; Associate Director of EEO and Civil Rights with the U. S. Department of State; Country Director of the Peace Corps in Ghana, West Africa; Chief of Operations for Peace Corps Latin America Region; and Deputy Director of the Peace Corps in Bogota, Colombia. Gonzalez started his federal career as a HEW Fellow in 1976; he subsequently served as Special Assistant to the Deputy Assistant Secretary at the Department of Labor .
Mr. Gonzalez earned his Bachelors of Arts from the University of Puerto Rico (Magna Cum Laude). He also attended the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard and the Federal Executive Institute .
Mr. Gonzalez serves on various boards and organizations including the Regional Community Institute of Northeast Florida, Inc .; the advisory boards of the Police Athletic League, the Jacksonville Zoo & Gardens; the SBDC, the UNF Student Affairs, WJCT, Visit Jacksonville; and the Northeast Florida Global Cities Initiative . He was reappointed to the UNF Board of Trustees on March 24, 2016 for a term ending January 6, 2020.
Kevin Hyde of Jacksonville, is the Office Managing Partner of Foley & Lardner LLP in Jacksonville, Florida. Mr. Hyde represents employers in a variety of human resources matters, including day-to-day employment counseling , workplace safety, and litigates cases in charges of discrimination, employment-discrimination cases, wage-hour and management-union matters. Mr. Hyde is Board Certified by the Florida Bar in Labor and Employment matters. He has been listed as a leading lawyer in various publications including being included in Best Lawyers in America, Who’s Who Legal USA, Chambers USA: America’s Leading Business Lawyers, Florida’s Legal Elite™ by Florida Trend magazine and Florida Super Lawyers® (2006-2015). Mr. Hyde is a member of the Florida and Tennessee Bars and is a past chair of the Florida Bar Labor and Employment Section (1998-1999) and the Florida Bar Labor and Employment Certification Committee.
Mr. Hyde has been active in civic and community matters. He was an elected member of the Jacksonville City Council from 2003 through 2011, and is a past president of the City Council. Additionally, he has served as chair or a member of the Board of Directors of WJCT Public Broadcasting, the Jacksonville Public Education Fund, Jacksonville Community Council, Inc., the Jacksonville Civic Council, the Youth Crisis Center and Florida College. Mr. Hyde is a graduate of the University of Florida College of Law (J.D., with honors, 1988), and the University of South Florida (B.A., magna cum laude, 1984). He is married to Kathi Hyde and has two daughters. Mr. Hyde was appointed to the UNF Board of Trustees on March 24, 2016 for a term ending January 6, 2021.

During his tenure with Firehouse Subs, Mr. Joost developed the business model for one of the most iconic and recognized franchise brands within the restaurant industry across the United States. Firehouse Subs now comprises nearly 1,000 retail locations in 44 states, Puerto Rico and Canada with annual combined sales of $750 million. Mr. Joost co-created one of the most recognized and successful franchise agreements in the restaurant industry and developed the initial franchise evaluation criteria and 5 year strategic franchise growth plan. He is also accredited for creating and developing banking relationship for Firehouse, a multi-million business, resulting in a stream-lined ownership group that blossomed into not only Jacksonville’s #1 franchising business but also recognized nationally as being one of the top Franchising businesses in the United States.
