Student Leadership Summit

The Student Leadership Summit is the Institute’s annual flagship event and occurs each Fall semester. The Summit is a conference-style event, which offers attendees valuable leadership perspectives, lessons and interactive experiences, enabling students to view themselves as leaders while developing and mastering advanced concepts and practical applications of leadership.

Leading Beyond Boundaries: How Cultural Intelligence Creates Global Leaders

The Taylor Leadership Institute presents the 9th Annual Student Leadership Summit.

This year's theme - Leading Beyond Boundaries – will explore the concept of cultural intelligence (CQ) and highlight the ways in which CQ can enhance students’ capacity to lead more effectively in an ever globalizing world. Keynote speaker, Dr. Sandra Upton will share her unique insight into this key leadership competency, while challenging students to develop a deeper understanding of their own CQ and its significance in the real world of the workplace, classroom, community, and beyond.

 

Dr. Sandra UptonDr. Sandra Upton is Vice President of Educational Initiatives with the Cultural Intelligence Center (CQC) and is responsible for leading the center’s educational efforts. Dr. Upton has provided training and consulting to a number of prominent institutions and organizations, including Harvard Business School, London School of Economics, Google, Starbucks and others who have sought to improve the CQ of their students and team members. As a former business school dean, she understands how to effectively integrate CQ training with global leadership programs and initiatives, and has facilitated study abroad experiences in countries including China, Europe, Israel and South Africa.

 

 Fostering fun and opportunity, the Annual Student Leadership Summit is packed full of experiential learning opportunities for students, community leaders and volunteers. The UNF Student Leadership Summit is a flagship program of the Taylor Leadership Institute, a department within the Division of Student and International Affairs. Funded through the Student Life & Services Fee, this extraordinary event is free and open to all UNF students. Held each Fall, the Leadership Summit awakens you to the authentic purpose in your life. You'll hear from leaders of all sorts and learn so much about yourself while having lots of fun. The experience will empower you to develop meaningful interactions with community organizations and connect you with "real world" venues to practice leadership on and off campus. Need an excused absense from class to attend the Summit?  Simply download the 2017 Summit Request for Excused Absence form, fill it out and hand it to your professor(s) requesting an excused absence. If needed, the Institute can provide your professor a confirmation that you attended the Summit, assuming of course you are there and confirmed as such on our attendance record at check-in. If you have additional needs, we will do our best to advocate on your behalf. Please send an email to leadership@unf.edu.
