Spring 2021 Election Timeline

Monday, January 11th: Workshop- Elections 101

The Office of Elections will provide potential candidates/parties with information on how to successfully run in an election. Tips, rules, and ideas will be shared.  This meeting will be held via Zoom at 6:00 pm.

Monday, January 25th: Political Party Declaration of Intent Due

Political Party Declaration of Intent forms are due January 25th by 5:00 p.m. in the Student Government Rotunda, located in building 58E. Completed forms may also be scanned and emailed to the Elections Commissioner at sgaelections@unf.edu . Monday, February 1st: Elections Fair

Elections Fair will take place in the Student Union plaza from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Students and candidates are encouraged to attend and meet the different political parties running in the upcoming election.

 

(Due to COVID-19, this will be a tabling event - however, this is also subject to change) 

Party chairs must contact the Elections Commissioner to discuss set up.

 

Candidates are permitted to put up their campaign signage. Please review the campus signage map (located in the Candidate Campaign Packet) to ensure you are following the proper policies and procedures.

Monday, February 1st: Begin Accepting Candidate Declaration of Intent

The Office of Elections will begin accepting Candidate Declaration of Intent; they are due at the Student Government Rotunda, located in building 58E. Completed forms  may be scanned and emailed to the Elections Commissioner at sgaelections@unf.edu . Monday, February 15th: Candidate Declaration of Intent Due

Monday, February 22nd: Student Candidate Forum

Candidate forum will take place  in the Student Union Plaza from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Candidate forums give students the opportunity to meet with candidates running and speak about their issues and concerns.

(Due to COVID-19, this will be a tabling event - however, this is also subject to change)

Wednesday, February 24th: Mandatory Candidacy Meeting

Learn about the role of  a senator from current senators. Join the Office of Elections and Senate members for further knowledge about Student Government at 6:00pm. Refer to social media for ZOOM Meeting information.

If you are unable to attend either of these meetings you must contact the Elections Commissioner immediately.

Monday, March 1st: Presidential Debate

A Presidential Debate will be held at 6:00 p.m. in the Student Union Auditorium.  Students are encouraged to attend to hear debate on pressing issues by the Presidential Candidates.  Candidates will be contacted beforehand to gain an understanding of the debate format.

Tuesday, March 9th: First day of Elections

Polling booths will be set up from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Library and Student Union Plaza. Online voting will be available 24 hours.

Wednesday, March 10th: Second day of Elections

Polling booths will be set up from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Library and Student Union Plaza. Online voting will be available until 6:00 p.m.

Wednesday, March 10th: Elections Results Release

The Elections Commissioner in conjunction with the Attorney General shall confirm the tabulated results following  the close of the election.  Unofficial election results shall be released by the end of the day no later than 11:59 p.m. For further information, please refer to Elections Policies and Procedures.

Thursday, March 11th: Candidate Financial Statements & Signage Removal

Candidate Financial Statements are due by 5:00 p.m. in the Student Government Rotunda, located in building 58E. All expenses must be declared. Refer to the Policies and Procedures or contact the Elections Commissioner if you have any further questions.

Completed forms may also be scanned and emailed to the Elections Commissioner at sgaelections@unf.edu .

 

Campaigns are responsible for removing all campaign-related materials, including official PPO social media posts, within one business day following the close of an election. 

Friday, March 12th: Judicial Complaints

Any student may file a judicial complaint regarding the election. Judicial complaints must be filed by 5:00 p.m. in the Student Government Rotunda, with the exception of the Elections Commissioner. For any further questions please contact sgaelections@unf.edu

 


How to Run in Elections

Step 1:

Go to the Student Government Rotunda (located on the third floor of the Student Union Building 58E/3300) to pick up a Candidate Declaration of Intent Form

Step 2:

Return completed Candidate Declaration of Intent Form to the Student Government Rotunda, 58E/3300.

Step 3:

Fill out a Purple Student Conduct Form and bring it to the SG Director's Office, located in the Student Union Building 58E/3401.
