Spring 2020 Election Timeline

Thursday, January 9th: Workshop - How to Election?

The Office of Elections will provide potential candidates/parties with information on how to successfully run in an election at 4:00 P.M. in the John E. Sapp Conference Room (Building 58E, Room 3206). Tips, rules, and ideas will be shared.

Tuesday, January 21st: Political Party Declaration of Intent Due

Political Party Declaration of Intent Forms are due January 21st by 5:00 P.M. in the Student Government Rotunda, located on the third floor in building 58E. These forms can be found at the Rotunda or at the Elections Records page.

Wednesday, January 29th: Elections Fair

The Elections Fair will take place during Market Day in the John A. Delaney Student Union plaza from 10:00 A.M. - 2:00 P.M. Students and candidates are encouraged to attend and meet with the different political parties running in the upcoming election.

 

Party chairs must contact the Elections Commissioner to discuss set-up.

 

Candidates are permitted to put up their campaign signage. Please review the campus signage map (located in the Candidate Campaign Packet) to ensure you are following the proper policies and procedures.

Wednesday, January 29th: Begin Accepting Candidate Declaration of Intent

The Office of Elections will begin accepting Candidate Declaration of Intent forms; they must be turned in at the Student Government Rotunda, located on the third floor in building 58E. These forms can be found at the Rotunda or at the Elections Records page.

Tuesday, February 11th: Candidate Declaration of Intent Due

Candidate Declaration of Intent forms are due February 11th by 5:00 P.M. to the Student Government Rotunda, located on the third floor in building 58E. These forms can be found at the Rotunda or at the Elections Records page.

Wednesday, February 12th: Student Candidate Forum

Candidate forum will take place during Market Day in the Student Union plaza from 10a.m. to 2p.m. Candidate forums give students the opportunity to meet with candidates running and speak about their issues and concerns.

Monday, February 17th: Mandatory Candidacy Meeting

Learn about your possible role as a senator from current senators. Join the Office of Elections and current Senate members for some snacks and knowledge about Student Government at 4:30 P.M in the John E. Sapp Conference Room (Building 58E, Room 3206).

 

Each candidate is required to attend at least one of these mandatory meetings.

If you are unable to attend either of these meetings, you must contact the Elections Commissioner immediately at sgaelections@unf.edu or (904) 620-5532.

Tuesday, February 25th: Presidential Debate

A Presidential Debate will be held at 6:00 P.M. in the John A. Delaney Student Union Auditorium. Students are encouraged to attend to hear debate by the Presidential Candidates on pressing issues. Candidates will be contacted beforehand to gain an understanding of the debate format.

Tuesday, March 3rd: First Day of Elections

Polling booths will be available from 9:00 A.M. until 6:00 P.M. at the Thomas G. Carpenter Library and John A. Delaney Student Union. Online voting will be available 24 hours.

Wednesday, March 4th: Second Day of Elections

Polling booths will be available from 9:00 A.M. until 6:00 P.M. at the Thomas G. Carpenter Library and the John A. Delaney Student Union. Online voting will be available until 6:00 P.M.

Wednesday, March 4th: Elections Results Released

The Elections Results will be released immediately following their tabulation and confirmation by the Office of Elections. The Release will take place in the John A. Delaney Student Union plaza, if weather permits.

Thursday, March 5th: Candidate Financial Statements

Candidate Financial Statements are due by 5:00 P.M. to the Student Government Rotunda located on the third floor in building 58E. All expenses must be declared. Refer to the Policies and Procedures on the Elections Records page or contact the Elections Commissioner at sgaelections@unf.edu or (904) 620-5532 if you have any further questions.

Friday, March 6th: Judicial Complaints and Signage Removal

Any student may file a judicial complaint regarding the election. Judicial complaints must be filed by 5:00 P.M. in the Student Government Rotunda, located on the third floor of building 58E, with the exception of complaints filed by the Elections Commissioner. For any further questions, please contact the Elections Commissioner at sgaelections@unf.edu or (904) 620-5532.

 

Candidates are responsible for removing all campaign-related materials by 5:00 P.M.


How to Run in Elections

Step 1:

Go to the Student Government Rotunda (located on the third floor of the Student Union Building 58E/3300) to pick up a Candidate Declaration of Intent Form

Step 2:

Return completed Candidate Declaration of Intent Form to the Student Government Rotunda, 58E/3300.

Step 3:

Fill out a Purple Student Conduct Form and bring it to the SG Director's Office, located in the Student Union Building 58E/3401.
