Jacksonville, Fla. – As the next step of a succession plan that was put into motion almost two years ago, OneJax, an Institute of the University of North Florida, announced today that Executive Director Nancy Broner will transition into an emeritus role and Kyle Reese, Deputy Director, will assume the role of Executive Director. The changes become effective July 1, 2020.

In her new role, Broner will handle projects and assignments for the organization—within the UNF system and the community at large. As a OneJax ambassador, her focus will remain on promoting respect and understanding among people of different backgrounds, faiths, races, orientations and identities in order to help transform Jacksonville into a more inclusive community.

Reese, a former OneJax board member and the former senior pastor of Hendricks Avenue Baptist Church, joined the OneJax staff in May 2019. As Executive Director, he will oversee the organization’s programming, fundraising and strategic direction.

“We all owe a huge debt of gratitude to Nancy Broner for her leadership over the past seven years,” said Connie Hodges, chair of the OneJax Board of Directors. “Under her watchful eye, OneJax has grown and expanded and has become more financially sound than ever before in its history. In addition, Nancy has developed strong partnerships and collaborations with members of the business community and other nonprofit service providers. She helped the agency and the Jacksonville community by initiating new programs and services designed to get people talking about their differences, including Civil Discourse programs, Community Suppers, Community Conversations and Interfaith Dialogues. The board of directors is very pleased that she will continue to play an important role in our future as we move forward to make Jacksonville an even more welcoming city.”

“We are so fortunate to have someone like Kyle, who is a strong leader and very well-connected in the community, to step into Nancy’s shoes,” Michael Korn, incoming board chair, said of Reese. “Kyle is passionate about the work and is experienced in overcoming obstacles that can arise as we strive to overcome discrimination and inequality in our city. He’s been a great support to Nancy and the board this past year and is ready to assume the responsibilities of Executive Director. We anticipate a seamless transition.”

Prior to joining OneJax in 2013, Broner was a member and past chairman of the Duval County School Board, serving on the board from 2002-2010.  Active in the Jacksonville community for many years, she also served as an independent consultant providing policy and governance training to clients such as United Way of Northeast Florida, Duval County Public Schools, School District of Philadelphia, Fulton County Public Schools and many others.

Broner has also devoted a great amount of time to community activities and organizations. She has served on many nonprofit Boards of Directors and Task Forces in Northeast Florida including Baptist Beaches Medical Center, Baptist Health System’s Social Responsibility and Community Health Committee, the Community Foundation’s Exploration Committee on philanthropy to support the LGBT community, The Florida Times-Union’s City of Hope Task Force, the Jacksonville Journey Task Force and the Schultz Center for Teaching and Leadership, among others.
