New UNF Health Administration Master’s Offers Online Format

Program Allows Working Professionals to Earn Advanced Degree

The University of North Florida’s Department of Health Administration will launch a new Executive Master of Health Administration (EMHA) graduate program in August.

The program is designed for working health care professionals and utilizes a mostly online delivery format that allows mid-career managers, administrators, physicians and other health professionals to meet working demands, while conveniently earning an advanced degree to become executive leaders in the industry.

“The EMHA program will allow our students to gain top leadership positions in leading national and regional health care organizations,” said Dr. Cynthia Williams, UNF EMHA program director and associate professor.

The curriculum provides students with the critical-thinking, communication, ethical and analytical skills that are necessary components to succeeding in complex and challenging business situations. The program requires 30-credit hours, which can be completed in less than two years.

“We’re proud to be training the next leaders of the 21st century who will manage the most complex health care organizations in history,” said Dr. Mei Zhao, UNF Department of Health Administration chair. “Our competency-based curriculum includes the theoretical foundations that have guided business leaders for decades as well as the new skills and expertise needed to meet the growing expectations of the industry.”

Admission requirements include at least five years of health care experience; current employment in the health or human services field having/planning to have managerial or supervisory experience; a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a GPA of at least 3.0; a letter of interest and two letters of recommendation. Allowances may be made when justified by exceptional work experience and letters of recommendation.

The Department of Health Administration at UNF is located in one of the most dynamic health services marketplaces in the United States, home to 15 hospitals including the Mayo Clinic as well as numerous non-profit and for-profit health organizations. The mission of the Department is to educate leaders, managers, policymakers and practitioners by creating and translating knowledge into policy and practice to improve the health care field.

UNF, a nationally ranked university located on an environmentally beautiful campus, offers students who are dedicated to enriching the lives of others the opportunity to build their own futures through a well-rounded education.
