Former White House Press Secretary Discusses Faith in Politics

The OneJax Institute at
the University of North Florida presents Mike McCurry: Faith in Politics, 7
p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, in the Fine Arts Center, Building 45, Lazzara
Performance Hall, Room 2400, on campus.
will discuss his journey from press secretary for former President Bill Clinton
to joining the Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C., as professor of
public theology, and how faith has shaped his distinct political perspectives
as well as the role religion should or will play in politics.
“One way or another, what we believe and how we form our values and what
we’re taught from our faith traditions does impact the way in which we serve in
a public capacity,” said McCurry.
He is a Washington-based communications consultant who is also active
within the administration of the United Methodist Church, serving as a lay
delegate to the Church General Conference and on various denominational boards.
He currently co-chairs the Commission on Presidential Debates.
McCurry serves on
numerous boards and advisory councils for including Share Our Strength, the
Junior Statesmen Foundation, Children's Scholarship Fund, the Wesley
Theological Seminary, United Methodist Communications and the White House

to the community; however, tickets are required for entry and may be obtained

on the second through fourth floors of the Fine Arts Center Parking Garage,
