The
College of Arts and Sciences and the Coggin College of Business at the
University of North Florida are collaborating to offer a Master of Arts in
International Affairs degree in the fall semester, which begins Monday, Aug.
25. The priority application deadline for this program is Thursday, May 7.
This
international degree will offer an interdisciplinary curriculum that provides
students a solid foundation of knowledge with which to view issues and solve
problems from a multi-faceted perspective.
“This
new master’s degree program is important because there is an increasing need
for international education in order to prepare our students for careers in
today’s world,” said Dr. David Schwam-Baird, UNF associate professor of
political science.
With
this degree, students will be prepared for careers with a wide variety of
employers like the U.S. Government (foreign service, homeland security,
immigrations and customs) or international organizations, such as the United
Nations, and jobs in international and development consulting, international
business, government liaison offices and education.
Common
core classes will be provided by the departments of Political Science and
Public Administration, Economics and Geography, History, as well as Sociology
and Anthropology, while elective courses will also be provided by the same
departments but will also include the departments of English, Philosophy and
Religious Studies, Languages, Literature and Cultures.
Students
will be able to choose between a thesis option and a non-thesis option, which
would include an internship or study-abroad component.
