UNF Writing Boot Camp Aids School Students in FSA Prep

Grab your notebook and get ready to write.
Students in grades four through 11 have an opportunity to acquire stronger,
lifelong writing skills and earn higher Florida Standards Assessments English
language arts and writing score by attending the annual Camp Composition at the
College of Education and Human Services at the University of North Florida
beginning Saturday, January 23, in Tom and Betty Petway Hall, Building 57.
The writing camp will take place from 9 a.m. to noon on the following days:
1, Saturday, Jan. 23: Writing Prompts
2, Saturday, Jan. 30: Prewriting Strategies
3, Saturday, Feb. 6: Drafting Strategies
4, Saturday, Feb. 13: Revising Strategies
5, Saturday, Feb. 20: Editing Strategies
6, Saturday, Feb. 27: Writing Celebration
Camp orientation is from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday.
Jan. 22, in Petway Hall, Building 57, Room 1100A, where the detailed schedule
and room assignments will be shared with participants.
Camp Composition will be led by local lead area
teachers who specialize in writing instruction in grades four through 11. These
teachers will work with specific writing teams and will provide weekly feedback
to each individual student. Stress-reduction strategies will also be taught to
students by an expert.
A completed form and registration fee of $240
is required; space is limited. Scholarships will be offered on a limited basis
to students who qualify for free or reduced lunch and/or attend a Title 1
school. Confirmation from the school is required. A reduced fee is also
available for siblings. No refunds will be offered after Wednesday, Jan. 13.
