The University of North Florida
Women’s Center will observe Sexual Assault Awareness Month with the “Walk in a
Woman's Shoes” event at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 7, on the Osprey Plaza at the
Student Union on the UNF campus.
“This project initiates a conversation
about a topic that often goes undiscussed,” said coordinator Brandi Wynne.
“Walk in a Woman's Shoes” aims to
raise awareness of the severity and frequency of atrocities against women. The
event will honor and remember those who have lost their lives to violence or
survived sexual violence.
The sexual assault awareness event
will feature men walking an outlined course in women’s high-heeled shoes or
other decorated footwear.
Additionally, there will be a
“Clothesline Project,” which is a physical representation of victims or
survivors of any type of sexual violence. Students will decorate a shirt, bed
sheet or pillowcase to honor or remember those who have been affected by sexual
event, while serious in nature, is educational and fun for all involved. Along
with the activities, informational booths and tables will be available to
educate students, faculty and staff about the community resources associated
with sexual assault intervention and prevention.
