Affordable Colleges Foundation, a leading resource for online learning and college affordability information, has published its new ranking of 2015’s Best Online Nursing Schools, ranking the University of North Florida No. 3 in the country. UNF is the only Florida state university to make the list.
“The schools on our list offer aspiring nursing majors the flexibility to balance work, school and personal commitments,” said Dan Schuessler, Affordable Colleges Foundation CEO and founder. “They give students increased opportunity to move their careers forward without delay, a challenge when only campus options existed.”
To create this ranking, ACF had a team of data analysts and researchers manually research and analyze more than 2,000 not-for-profit institutions across the country to develop our unique, proprietary database. ACF used a proprietary scoring system to identify the top schools on the list with the best combination of curriculum options, student support services and affordability.
Nursing is one of the fastest-growing careers in healthcare. The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts faster-than-average growth for nursing occupations from 2012 to 2022, fueled by an aging population and the expansion of healthcare to a larger segment of the country.
“The goal of our online program is to help nurses accomplish a higher level of education in order to provide safer, more effective care to patients, “said Dr. Li Loriz, director of UNF’s School of Nursing. “When we embarked on the online RN-BSN program, we wanted to make sure we maintained the same quality as our program on campus. We’re able to accomplish this by providing a comprehensive program that can be completed in 12 months, while maintaining the costs at a reasonable rate.”
UNF offers eight degree and certificate programs through distance learning. Distance learning offerings are selected and developed to meet student needs in a manner that is consistent with the University’s mission. Some programs require occasional campus visits, and most online courses are asynchronous, allowing students to complete coursework while meeting other work and family responsibilities. Online programs are designed to employ the best pedagogical practices based on the existing research literature and to be compatible with the highest levels of student learning, interaction and engagement. UNF is a member of the Florida Virtual Campus and the Southern Regional Board Electronic Campus.
“At UNF, online courses and degree programs are developed and delivered to provide greater access to our academic offerings and to meet the increasing needs of our students,” said Dr. Len Roberson, UNF associate vice president for Academic Technology and Innovation. “Ensuring our online courses and programs are of the same high quality as our traditional offerings is critical.”
This latest recognition comes on the heels of UNF receiving several other national designations, including Kiplinger’s Personal Finance’s 2015 Best Value Public College, the 2015 Best Online College by the Affordable Colleges Foundation, Best Regional University, 2015 Best Online Programs and Best Online Graduate Education Program, all by U.S. News& World Report, Best in the Southeast and Best Value College, both by Princeton Review, Best College by College Factual and Top Florida College for Return on Investment by The College Database, to name a few.
