University of North Florida Coggin College of Business Dean Position Available

Applications are currently being sought for the position of dean in the Coggin College of Business at the University of North Florida. The University is seeking an individual who can lead Coggin College in a shared vision and promote that vision within the broader community. The position reports to the provost in the Office of Academic Affairs and is the CEO of the College.

Required qualifications for the position are as follows: The candidate must have an earned doctorate or other terminal degree(s) and a record of scholarly achievement that warrants a faculty appointment as a full professor within the College. The candidate must present a record of at least five years of significant administrative experience. Leadership in maintaining AACSB accreditation is essential. Alternatively, candidates with a graduate degree and a minimum of 20 years of significant management experience demonstrating outstanding leadership abilities and significant accomplishments in business also may receive consideration.

The ideal academic candidate will be a skilled communicator with the personal charisma necessary to excel internally within the Coggin College and University and externally within the regional business environment. Internally, this includes demonstrated abilities to manage faculty directly (including faculty recruitment, development, evaluation and promotion), to operationalize the College strategy and to secure required budget resources.

The candidate should have demonstrated ability to work with and engage diverse students and colleagues within and outside the College. The candidate will have demonstrated that he/she understands and supports quality research and quality teaching. Passion about student outcomes and the Coggin College’s potential also are required.

Additionally, the ideal candidate will have the skill and ability to represent the Coggin College within the larger University community, to secure equitable resources for the College and to build administrative and academic alliances. Externally, the ideal candidate should demonstrate the ability to connect with “C” suite-level business leaders, to engage stakeholders and generate community enthusiasm for the Coggin College and to obtain financial resources for the College from the community. The candidate should also have a strong record of community involvement. Comparable characteristics and areas of expertise are expected of the ideal non-academic candidate.

The mission of the Coggin College of Business is to educate students in business through accredited degree programs by having both students and faculty engage in scholarly activities for the discovery and application of knowledge. The Coggin College is accredited by AACSB in both business and accounting. The school’s 70 full-time, permanent faculty members deliver outstanding instruction to approximately 2,800 undergraduate and 380 graduate students and publish meaningful, significant research.

The Coggin College houses two of the University’s six flagship programs—international business and transportation and logistics. The University ranks No. 10 in the nation for the number of students participating in short-term study abroad programs, with the College providing 34 percent of those students. The transportation and logistics program is nationally recognized and houses a state-of-the-art teaching lab, where students receive hands-on experience with professional software. The Coggin College has a student-managed investment fund with a portfolio value of more than $1 million and a dedicated trading room.

The College offers BBA degrees in accounting, economics, finance, financial services, international business, management, marketing and transportation and logistics. At the graduate level, it offers Master of Accountancy and MBA degrees, as well as an international dual-degree master’s program, the NASPA Best Practices in International Education Award-winning GlobalMBA.
