For the fifth consecutive year, the University of North Florida Coggin College of Business Transportation and Logistics Flagship Program is home to two Delta Nu Alpha national scholarship recipients. UNF seniors Lisa Nguyen and David Jones were recently announced as the 2014 winners.

"Recognition such as this is always a team effort,” said Robert Frankel, director of the Transportation and Logistics Flagship Program at UNF. “The Delta Nu Alpha awards continue a wonderful tradition for the Transportation and Logistics program and the flagship. The awards recognize the outstanding students’ current accomplishments and future potential, as well as the committed and highly engaged faculty and staff.”

Nguyen, majoring in Transportation and Logistics, is a native to Jacksonville, but her family originates from Vietnam, and she is the first in her family to attend college. She is a current member of the Transportation and Logistics Society and serves on the board as the marketing director for 2014-15. She spent last summer as an intern at Yusen Logistics Americas, a third-party logistics company, and plans to graduate in spring 2015 with a bachelor’s degree in Transportation and Logistics.

Jones, a resident of Jacksonville’s west side and also majoring in transportation and logistics, expects to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in spring of 2015. He is also the first in his family to attend college and is able to balance full-time employment and academics. Along with the Delta Nu Alpha Scholarship, he is the recipient of the Jacksonville Port Authority Scholarship and the Pat Moran and JM Family Enterprises, Inc. Endowed Scholarship. He credits his professors, the UNF Transportation and Logistics Society and the resources provided by the Coggin College for his academic success.

The Delta Nu Alpha Foundation is a non-profit organization, supporting education in the fields of transportation, distribution and logistics. Since its inception in 1987, the Foundation has provided numerous scholarships, research grants and funding for the Journal of Transportation Management. Scholarships are granted annually to undergraduate students pursuing careers in transportation and logistics and currently studying in schools, colleges and universities with established programs in these fields. Applicants are judged on academic success; career potential, motivation and plans; recommendation and evaluation by faculty and internship; and experience related to transportation and logistics.

The Transportation and Logistics Flagship Program at UNF fosters the intellectual growth of students within a nationally competitive program of distinction and leading source of the creation and dissemination of knowledge in the areas of logistics and supply-chain management. Through excellence in teaching, scholarship and professional service, faculty engage individually and together with students to deliver an exemplary curriculum and student experience which emphasizes the discovery and application of knowledge.
