UNF Interfaith Week Provides Rare Religious Insight

The University of North Florida Interfaith Center is hosting its annual Interfaith Week, which serves as tangible evidence of progress in strides toward understanding and acceptance among different faiths, religions, and secular philosophies


Serving as a bridge among multiple ideological frameworks, organizations and creeds, the annual interfaith event provides insight to customs and belief systems rarely seen by outsiders. “We are excited to host this annual event,” said Dr. Tarah Trueblood, UNF Interfaith Center director. “Providing students and the community these types of experiences is key to a well-rounded education and understanding of the world.”


The community is invited to participate in Wear a Turban Day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, on the Osprey Plaza at UNF’s Student Union. With more than 100 turbans to donate, members of the Sikh Society of Northeast Florida will demonstrate the intricate process for securing this important faith symbol.


The documentary, “ Divided We Fall ,"  will be shown at 8 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 27, in Building 58W, Student Union Auditorium, Room 2704. This film is by Valarie Kaur, a Sikh American filmmaker, is about a college student who journeys across America to determine who counts as “one of us” in a world divided into an “us” versus “them” society.


The Sikh Society of North East Florida  is a forum for followers of the Sikh faith residing in Northeast Florida to pursue and achieve the objectives of the faith, education, culture, humanity, universal brotherhood and well-being.


The mission of the UNF Interfaith Center is to engage the UNF campus around religious pluralism,support the religious and non-religious identities of students, as well as provide distinctive programs and services for students to voice values, engage with others, act together and lead others to do likewise.
