Media Contact: Joanna Norris, Associate Director
Department of Public Relations
The University of North Florida Women’s Center and V-Day UNF 2013 will present a benefit performance of “The Vagina Monologues” at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, and Saturday, Feb. 16, in the Andrew A. Robinson Jr. Theater, Building 14A, located next to the UNF Fine Arts Center.
Proceeds benefit the UNF Women’s Center and the V-Day 2013 Spotlight Project. Tickets cost $20 for the general public and $10 for students with any valid student identification. Tickets may be purchased through the UNF Ticket Box Office at (904) 620-2878.
“The Vagina Monologues” have been hailed by The New York Times as “funny” and “poignant” and by the Daily News as “intelligent” and “courageous.” The performance was written by award-winning playwright Eve Ensler, who dives into the mystery, humor, pain, power, wisdom, outrage and excitement buried in women’s experiences. In addition, the 2013 Spotlight campaign focuses attention on the staggering statistic of violence against women and girls over a lifetime.
The performance is made possible by a collaboration of more than 50 UNF students, faculty and staff who comprise V-Day UNF 2013. In cooperation with the UNF Women’s Center and the global V-Day movement, V-Day UNF works to raise awareness of violence against women and girls through performances and educational events.
For more than 20 years, the UNF Women’s Center has been a vital hub of learning and advocacy for the entire UNF community. The Women’s Center provides emergency loans, victim advocacy services, rape awareness education, as well as information and referrals on a variety of women’s issues, in addition to hosting performances, lectures and events each year.
