The University of North Florida Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Resource Center is sponsoring the “Coming Out Monologues,” a collaborative storytelling event that will unite the community, at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, in the Lazzara Performance Hall, Fine Arts Center, Building 45, on the UNF campus.
Coming Out Monologues
” (COM) is a community-inspired, community-created and community-led theatrical production comprised of spoken word performances, artistic and moving monologues, musical performances and enlightening narrations.
“The coming out process is a critical and integral part of a person’s development, whether they are just coming out to themselves or going the extra difficult step of coming out to their family, friends or co-workers,” said Barbara Jean Douglass, director of UNF’s LGBT Resource Center. “The “Coming Out Monologues” is a reflection of that process, through creativity, humor and passion for self-expression.”
COM is similar to the “Vagina Monologues,” except that each monologue is written by UNF students, staff, faculty or alumni about their own coming out stories. Individuals writing monologues may wish to perform their own piece during the production or turn it over to another community amateur actor.
Tickets are $10 for students and $20 for the general public. Tickets can be purchased online at
