Snap!, a new online literary journal based at the University of North Florida, is launching the first installment of its “Perpetual May” issue on Tuesday, April 15. The literary journal can be found online at

UNF English majors and seniors Mike Chmielewski, a San Marco resident, and Arlington resident Sean Thompson serve as editors of the online journal, which is published in cooperation with River House, a virtual writers’ house under UNF’s Writing Program. Snap! seeks out tiny gems: the most sudden of flash fictions, abrupt sparks of poetry, essay miniatures and small hermeneutics.

“Snap! doesn’t just cater to short attention spans. It celebrates them. This is an opportunity for those who have them and are interested in writing nonetheless,” said Thompson. “I hope Snap! not only adds a new dimension to the University’s writing scene but will help inspire more growth in this far too neglected field of study.”

The half-dozen works presented in the debut issue explore the irreducibility of trouble, a lesson in how to dance and what that really means, and a haunting vision of the invention of God in the machine we are making of ourselves.

Snap! invites submissions from writers at every stage of their lives and careers, from every quarter and occupation. “We want fast works. Sticky flashes of wisdom, odd noises in the night, a belly laugh, and the occasional good, hard nut to crack a tooth on,” said Chmielewski.
