New Workforce Development Program Launched at UNF

The Center for Economic and Workforce Development, a unit within the Division of Continuing Education at the University of North Florida, is launching several new programs this fall. A new program starting in September is training for first responders as well as regulation and compliance training regarding environmental, hazardous waste, hazmat transportation and health and safety regulations.
UNF’s Center for Economic and Workforce Development has established an Environmental and Safety Training Institute, which offers certifications from entry-level to advanced-training programs to help implement local company’s compliance policy for local, state or federal regulations. The Environmental and Safety Institute is divided into two sections: First Responders and Regulation and Compliance Training.
The First Responders Training, beginning Monday, Sept. 29, and going through Saturday, Oct. 4, is for employees working with and/or responding to emergencies involving hazardous materials and hazardous wastes and for employees who are required to receive one or more mandatory OSHA training courses.
The following First Responder Training courses are being offered:
Respiratory Protection Training—Air Purifying Respirators; Monday, Sept. 29, 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Bloodborne Pathogen Training; Monday, Sept. 29, 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
HAZMAT Awareness Level Training and Incident Prevention; Tuesday, Sept. 30, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Resource, Conservation & Recovery Act HAZWASTE Training; Wednesday, Oct. 1, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
29 CFR 1910.120- HAZWOPER 8-hour Refresher Training, Thursday, Oct. 2, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Infection Control, AIDS/HIV & OSHA Bloodborne Pathogen Training for the Dental Office; Friday, Oct. 3, 8:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
Hazard Communication Training for the Dental Office; Friday, Oct. 3, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Hazmat Awareness, Bloodborne Pathogen & Respiratory Protection Refresher Training; Saturday, Oct. 4, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Regulatory Compliance Training will also start on Monday, Sept. 8, and will run through Friday, Nov. 7. With Lion Technology’s seasoned professionals’ compliance expertise, the Environmental and Safety training offered at UNF will provide individuals with the knowledge and professional certifications needed to excel in the industry. The goal is to teach individuals and teams how the regulations work and how to apply the rules at the worksite.

Hazardous Materials Transportation Certification; Monday, Sept. 8, through Thursday, Sept. 11, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Hazardous Materials Vessel Shipper Certification Workshop; Monday, Sept. 8, through Thursday, Sept. 11, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Hazardous/Toxic Waste Management; Monday, Sept. 15, through Tuesday, Sept. 16, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Complete Guide for Managing OSHA Compliance (OSH 132); Monday, Nov. 3, through Tuesday, Nov. 4, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Complete Environmental Regulations Workshop; Thursday, Nov. 6, through Friday, Nov. 7, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
