(Jacksonville, FL) – The University of North Florida Fine Arts Center’s 2008-09 performance season continues getting better with the announcement of Winn-Dixie Stores, Inc., as this year’s official sponsor.

Winn-Dixie is helping the Fine Arts Center to deliver a diverse program that includes political satire, comedic theater, classical music and world-class country, modern dance, salsa and jazz music. The season kicks off on September 25th with the witty political punditry and humor of The Capitol Steps ( ). A Pre-show Patriotic Jamboree will occur on the front porch of the Fine Arts Center. Food vendors will be available along with music and much more.

“It is an honor to partner again with Winn-Dixie in delivering our most exciting season yet and to continue our tradition of bringing a unique blend of outstanding arts and entertainment offerings to the First Coast,” said Sharon Papian, the Center’s Executive Director.

In addition to sponsoring the overall season, The Winn-Dixie Series will include exclusive sponsorship of three major performances. On December 11, the internationally acclaimed St. Petersburg State Ice Ballet enacts Cinderella, a lavish staging of the beloved fairy tale involving dozens of champion Russian ice dancers. On January 24, 2009, the Center welcomes the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis, the multiple Grammy-winning and visionary trumpeter. Finally, BirdhouseFactory by Cirque Mechanics will perform a mesmerizing blend of music, circus arts, light and choreography inspired by early 20th century industrialism.

“We are very excited about the opportunity to work with the Fine Arts Center again this year,” said Robin Miller, Winn-Dixie’s director of communications. “This is another way for us to show our commitment to giving back to the neighborhoods we serve in our hometown.”
