The 16th Annual Small Business Week Celebration will be held at the University Center on the University of North Florida campus Thursday, May 1, from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. This year’s event will feature noted author Bo Burlingham.

Burlingham, author of “Small Giants,” has been inside of some of the most remarkable companies in America, companies that choose to be great instead of big. He will share what gives these maverick companies their “mojo” and will help Jacksonville business owners focus on being great at what they do, creating a great place to work and making great contributions to their community. Burlingham is also editor-at-large of Inc. Magazine and co-author of “The Great Game of Business and A Stake in the Outcome.”

After the keynote presentation, the U.S. Small Business Administration will present its coveted Small Business Week awards, spotlighting the outstanding contributions of North Florida business leaders and champions at the district level. The U.S. SBA will also recognize 10 of North Florida’s top SBA Lenders with Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards for significant participation in the 7(a) and 504 Loan programs for fiscal year 2007.

Following are the 2008 Small Business Week winners: Small Business Person of the Year: Anne V. Stokes, Ph.D., president, Southeastern Archaeological Research, Inc.; Minority Small Business Champion of the Year: Jacqulyn Perry, manager, Beaver Street Enterprise Center; Women in Business Champion of the Year: Suzanne Lemen, CEO, Dynamic Corporate Solutions, Inc. and Idea Staffing; Jeffrey Butland Family-Owned Business of the Year: Jose Sabatier, CEO Zabatt, Inc.; SBA Young Entrepreneur of the Year: Christopher Kennelly, president, Kennetic Productions, Inc.

Registration fee for this event is $35 per person. Corporate tables of eight are available at $500 for the luncheon. Each attendee will receive a copy of Burlingham’s book “Small Giants.”
