President Szymanski supports Osprey Racing
March 25, 2020
Osprey Racing students along with College of Computing, Engineering and Construction Dean Chip Klostermeyer and Dr. Osama Jadaan, mechanical engineering professor, were recently presented with a $1,200 check from President Szymanski to help replace tools needed to build their race car.
Recognized by the university as an integral part of UNF’s School of Engineering, Osprey Racing is a student-run club and non-profit chapter of the Society of Automotive Engineers that currently has more than 40 roster members.
Osprey Racing is one of only 120 college/university programs world-wide to participate in the Formula SAE Collegiate Design Series competition taking place annually at Michigan International Speedway. The Formula SAE challenges students to develop and construct a single-seat, open-wheel race car targeted for non-professional autocross racers.
Osprey Racing provides students real-world applications and experiences as participation in this series augments students’ engineering design and project management skills by applying learned classroom theories, including research, design, developing, testing, manufacturing, marketing, management and finance, in a challenging sanctioned competition.
As President Szymanski is committed to making UNF ‘the best university it can be,’ Osprey Racing is following that goal with being ‘the very best team we can be.’ More information can be found at https://www.unf.edu/ccec/giving/Osprey_Racing.aspx.
