Inauguration of Dr. David M. Szymanski
February 22, 2019
The Lazzara Performance Hall, The Fine Arts Center
On the last Friday of February, Dr. David M. Szymanski was inaugurated as the University of North Florida’s sixth president. This formal ceremony included the installation of President Szymanski, investing him with the powers and responsibilities of the presidency. The theme of the Inauguration was Uniquely UNF, highlighting what makes the University special.
The events began with the official robing in academic regalia of the UNF Board of Trustees, alumni, faculty, elected officials and delegates from other institutions of higher education. The robing took place at the UNF Field House. Those taking part then followed the UNF Drumline, macebearer and marshals in a processional through campus to the Fine Arts Center and into the Lazzara Performance Hall for the investiture ceremony. The Inauguration was scheduled during UNF's Homecoming Week, which included both men's and women's basketball victories over ASUN conference rival Liberty University.
