President and First Lady Host Trivia
This Monday’s Digital Trivia night started Summer B Kickoff events by featuring President and First Lady Szymanski as the surprise game hosts. Our first family welcomed the students, shared well wishes and cheered on the game participants as they answered trivia questions about UNF. Over 1,000 students viewed the game and left comments that the event was “Swooptastic!” Digital Trivia takes place each week at 6 p.m. on Mondays via Osprey Life and Productions Instagram stories.
President and First Lady Drop In on Family Feud Night
Center and LGBT Resource Center teamed up to host a Family Feud Game Night via
Zoom on Tuesday, June 16. Students, faculty and staff all joined in on the fun
challenge. President Szymanski and First Lady Maria dropped in with a warm
welcome to the virtual participants and cheered on the game. Groups were
quizzed on various UNF, interfaith and LGBT topics. Some questions included:
most popular animals on campus, most populous religions, and things to wear to
Pride events. Lots of virtual fun and laughs were shared!
UNF Holds Virtual Candlelight Vigil for Racial Justice
President and First Lady Szymanski joined UNF students, faculty, staff and alumni for “Be the Change: A Virtual Candlelight Vigil for Racial Justice.” Throughout the vigil, members of the Osprey community shared their heartbreak and hopes for the future. The President reaffirmed UNF’s commitment to a safe and inclusive environment, and announced the appointment of alumna Whitney Meyer as vice president of diversity and inclusion, a newly created position at UNF. He also shared that the University will now require anti-racism training for new students and employees. The virtual vigil was live streamed on UNF’s Facebook page and can be viewed on UNF’s YouTube page.
President and Board Plan for Return to Campus
The draft Blueprint for Return to Campus in Fall 2020 was presented and approved by the UNF Board of Trustees on June 8. Requested of all universities in the Florida State University System, the blueprint provides operational strategies in the five priority areas: a healthy campus environment, a healthy community environment, COVID-19 testing, contact tracing and surveillance, and academic program delivery. UNF will hold town hall meetings with facutly, staff and students to further refine the plan. President Szymanski said, "The blueprint prioritizes the health and wellness of our students, faculty, and staff as we continue to deliver the enriching experience students have come to expect from UNF."
President and First Lady Meet Weekly with Students
Throughout the month of June, President and First Lady Szymanski have been meeting weekly with UNF students via Zoom.
The Szymanskis have enjoyed hearing about the students' remote learning experiences and plans for the future. They also discuss any challenges students may be facing that can be addressed and how the University of North Florida can continue to support them on and off campus.
