Transfer New Student Checklist

Set Up Your myWings Account

Setting up and becoming familiar with your UNF myWings account is essential to your success as a new student. Your myWings account is your access to all your personal student information, course registration, Canvas access to classes, financial aid, bill pay and so much more.

Accessing Your UNF myWings Account for the First Time

STEPS:

  1. Go to myWings or click the myWings logo at the top right of any UNF webpage
  2. Click "Login Help" located under the Login to myWings button
  3. Enter your N Number (located on your UNF admissions letter)
  4. Complete the security features and create a password
  5. Return to myWings and click Login to myWings button
  6. Enter N Number and Password
  7. Begin prompts for setting up DUO UNF Two-Factor Authentication (for specific DUO instructions visit the UNF Two-Factor Authentication website)

Setting Up Your UNF Osprey Email

Check your Osprey Email often for updates and important information from the office of Admissions, Financial Aid, New Student Orientation, First-Year Advising, and other UNF Departments and Faculty.

 

STEPS: Login to myWings > select the Email tile > set the Time Zone for Eastern Standard Time > Outlook will then automatically configure your new student email account.

Transfer Orientation Registration

As a new transfer student, you have the option of attending Transfer Orientation and/or participating in Online Orientation. Registration for the on-campus Transfer Orientation is in MyWings. Please refer to your UNF Admissions letter to confirm the status of your Admissions BEFORE signing up for an Orientation session and for the appropriate term for which session you should attend. Signing Up for Orientation in myWings

STEPS:

  1. Log into your myWings account using your UNF "N" number and password
  2. Click on the What's Next? tile
  3. Click on the Register for Orientation
  4. Read and follow ALL the instructions on the page
  5. Select your admission term and then choose your orientation session
  6. Click submit

If you need to change your scheduled orientation date complete the steps above again and select your new preferred session. Please note space may not be available in the session you need so it is important to choose the correct date first.

 

IMPORTANT: Please check all schedules (work, vacations, graduation, etc.) before making an orientation reservation. Once your reservation has been confirmed it may be difficult to choose another date with an open seat.

Online Orientation

No registration is required for Online Orientation. You'll be given access upon acceptance to UNF, and you can view and review as may times as you'd like. We encourage all new transfer Ospreys to view the Online Orientation in addition to attending Transfer Orientation, but both are optional. You can also self-enroll in the Next Steps Guide for Transfer Students course in Canvas for additional access to resources and how-to guides! Self-enroll here: Self Enroll.

Academic Advising

It is essential for your success as a UNF student that you meet with your academic advisor prior to registering for your classes. Most academic advising offices have walk-in hours; however, we recommend making an appointment. Please plan to meet with your Academic Advisor before attending Transfer Orientation.

At UNF each college has a specialized Academic Advising office, with professional staff and faculty advisors that are specialist in your major. Please find the contact information for your college's office on the Academic Advising website.

 

Transferring to UNF with fewer than 30 credit hours? You'll need to begin your academic advising process with the First-Year Advising office.

Residency Declaration

Complete Your Residency Declaration for In-State Tuition

Declare your Florida residency to qualify for in-state tuition rates. Please note, this must be completed even if you graduated from a Florida high school.

 

STEPS: Login to myWings > select the What's Next tile > choose Declare Residency for Tuition Purposes and complete form.

Registration Holds

Complete Your Student Holds to be Registration Ready at Orientation

Please give yourself several weeks to complete these holds, some holds such as Immunization holds can take 7-10 business days to process once received.

 

STEPS: Login to myWings > select the Holds tile > preview your holds then scroll to bottom of preview list and select "Learn How To Remove Holds" link at bottom of menu > to reconcile each hold, select the "click here" link next to each hold.

 

Questions about your hold? Please reference the contact information listed for that specific hold in the Registration Holds page in myWings. Holds may appear on your account for many reasons, and the UNF office that has issued your hold will be able to assist.

Pre-Enrollment Educational Programs

Health and Safety Awareness

Campus Clarity is a campus safety program all students must complete prior to enrollment at UNF. You'll have a Campus Clarity/EverFi hold on your account until you complete the course. The course must be completed in order to register for classes. The course takes about 2 hours to complete and students should finish the entire course before attending orientation. The hold typically takes 24 hours to fall off the holds list after completion.

 

STEPS: Login to mywings > select the Holds tile > scroll to bottom of holds list preview and select "Learn How To Remove Holds > next to Campus Clarity hold select the "click here" link.

Planning to Live On Campus? - Housing and Residence Life

UNF has several options for on-campus housing. Living on campus is optional but highly recommended. Find all things housing on theHousing and Residence Life website, and submit your housing contract on the Housing and Residence Life website using the myHousing portal to request a room.

On-Campus Dining & Meal Memberships

All First-time in college students that are living on campus are required to have a meal membership. Meal memberships are optional for off-campus or "commuter" students but they are a great way to save money when dining on campus.

 

To view all meal membership options visit www.dineoncampus.com/unf/. Meal memberships are purchased through your myWings account.

 

STEPS:  mywings > select the What's Next tile > choose "Purchase a Meal Membership"

 

Tip! Are you starting in the summer as a freshmen? Make sure to only select a membership for the summer B term.

Financial Preparedness

 

FAFSA

It is not required, but we highly recommend that all students submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to see if you qualify for grants, loans, and Federal work study. Visit the FAFSA website at www.fafsa.gov. Please note, some UNF scholarships may require a FAFSA be on file for awards to be assessed.

 

STEPS: Visit the FAFSA website at www.fafsa.gov to apply

 

Tip! If you are entering in the summer term you can file an additional FAFSA for the current financial aid year to help you qualify for funds to cover your summer expenses.

 

Florida Prepaid

If you have Florida Prepaid, please make sure you account is in good standing and that all your information on the FL Prepaid account is correct, especially your social security number.

 

A few days after you register for classes at orientation, you'll see your Florida Prepaid payment show on your student bill as a "pending payment." For more information about your UNF Bill and Florida Prepaid visit our Student Financial Services FL Prepaid Program website.

 

Florida Bright Futures

Please review the UNF Bright Futures website for eligibility and requirements for FL Bright Futures awards. Not seeing your anticipated award? Please check to make sure you have completed your Residency Declaration to verity in-state tuition eligibility and that you have selected UNF as your preferred institution on the Florida's Office of Student Financial Assistance (OSFA) website.

 

If you have questions about your state aid eligibility, or about selecting UNF as your preferred institution, please call OSFA at 1-888-827-2004.

 

Scholarships

Review the UNF Scholarship opportunities and requirements on the UNF Scholarships website. Some scholarships are automatically awarded at time of application based on merit and financial need, and others require additional applications. Once awarded, your scholarship(s) are applied to your UNF financial aid awards package and are available for review in your mywings account. Please note, if you're awarded a private scholarship you will need to take your check to the One-Stop Student Services office.

 

STEPS: mywings> select the Financial Aid tile > choose "Financial Aid Awards" > and select to view by term.

Post Orientation

Final "TO DO" items:

  • Purchase your Parking Permit (available 24 hours after you have registered for courses).
  • Purchase or Rent your textbooks.
  • Add "Ozzie Bucks" to your UNF Osprey1card (optional but great for being ready to print in the library).
  • Check out the WOW (Week of Welcome) schedule for events and activities.
  • Pay Tuition by Payment Deadline. Financial Aid Important Dates listed online.
  • Submit final OFFICIAL transcripts, showing your final grades and graduation to One-Stop Student Services.
  • If you took AP, IB, or AICE courses make sure your score reports are sent to One-Stop Student Services.
  • Review your financial aid status in myWings and make final decisions on accepting or declining loan offers. Please visit the Critical Steps to Financial Aid website for more instructions.
  • Follow Osprey Life and Productions to get notifications about UNF events, freebies, and more ways to get involved on campus!

myWings

MyWings is UNF's web portal, providing a single point of entry to web-based services such as UNF e-mail, Canvas, Student Update, as well as Student Self Service functions. Student Self Service gives you access to Registration, Student Records, and Financial Aid. With myWings you have the power to manage many aspects of your Student account.

 

The Parent Portal provides students the opportunity to release important information to their parents; and it provides parents a secure location where they can see details about their student's account.

UNF Email and the UNF Communication System

Email is our primary form of communication. You should check your UNF email regularly for important information and updates. If you forward your UNF email you may not receive important announcements and communications.

 

The communications sent to you will be archived and made accessible through myWings. You may retrieve these archived emails, letters, and attachments by following the steps below.

 

STEPS: Login to myWings > select the Student Records tile > choose Personal Information > select My UNF Communications.
