First Year New Student Checklist
There are many things you will need to accomplish to ensure a smooth transition to UNF. This checklist will help you accomplish important student "to-do" items in order of importance.

Go to
myWings or click the myWings logo at the top right of any UNF webpage. Click Login Help > Enter your N Number > complete the security features and create a password > Return to
myWings and click Login to myWings link > enter N Number and Password.

Check you Osprey Email often for updates and important information from the office of Admissions, Financial Aid, New Student Orientation, First-Year Advising, and other UNF Departments and Faculty.
Login to myWings > select the Email tile > set the Time Zone for Eastern Standard Time > Outlook will automatically configure your new student email account.
Before Orientation

Register for your New Student Orientation through your myWings account.

Parents or guardians planning to attend orientation with you? Awesome! Have them register for Parent and Family Orientation on the same days you'll be attending. Register on our Parent and Family Orientation website: www.unf.edu/orientation/parents

Residency Declaration - Declare your Florida residency to qualify for in-state tuition rates. Please note, this must be completed even if you graduated from a Florida high school.

Be sure to clear your student holds to ensure your will be registration ready at your New Student Orientation.
Login to myWings > select the Holds tile > view your holds, to complete holds, scroll to "Learn How To Remove Holds" link at bottom of menu > to reconcile each hold, select the "click here" link next to each hold.

There will be two holds from Medical Compliance that you will need to complete. Follow these steps to submit the requested documents in mywings. For questions about the Medical Compliance immunization requirement, please visit our Medical Compliance website.

Informed Ospreys Program is a campus safety program all students must complete, and will stay on a student's account as a registration hold until completed. It takes about 4 hours and needs to be completed at several days prior to Orientation to allow time for the hold to clear. It can be found under the "Training & Development" tile called Ospreys Ascend in your myWings.

Download and complete the New Student Orientation Liability Waiver > send a PDF copy of completed form to NewToUNF@unf.edu
or
Login to myWings > click the Canvas tile > open the Next Steps Guide for New Students course > click "Submit Your Orientation Liability Waiver" module and upload a PDF of copy completed form

All students who are required per their major’s requirements will have access to the Math Placement Test course in Canvas. Please complete the placement test prior to your orientation.
Login to myWings > Canvas > Math Placement Test
Not sure if your major requires testing? Visit the "Math Placement Test Guide" in your Canvas course, Next Steps Guide for New Students, to view all math placement exemptions.
The UNF Writing Placement is no longer a testing requirement.

It is not required, but we highly recommend that all students submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to see if you qualify for grants, loans, and Federal work study. Visit the FAFSA website at www.fafsa.gov. Please note, some UNF scholarships may require a FAFSA be on file for awards to be assessed.
Tip! If you are entering in the summer term you can file an additional FAFSA for the current financial aid year to help you qualify for funds to cover your summer expenses.

Submit your housing contract on the Housing and Residence Life website using the myHousing portal.

All First-time in college students that are living on campus are required to have a meal membership. To view meal membership options visit www.dineoncampus.com/unf/. Meal memberships are purchased through your myWings account.

Tip! Are you starting in the summer as a freshmen? Make sure to only select a membership for the summer B term.

If you have Florida Prepaid, please make sure you account is in good standing and that all your information on the FL Prepaid account is correct, especially your social security number.
A few days after you register for classes at orientation, you'll see your Florida Prepaid payment show on your student bill as a "pending payment." For more information about your UNF Bill and Florida Prepaid visit our Student Financial Services FL Prepaid Program webpage.

During Orientation

Meet your First Year Experience (FYE) Mentor who will help guide you through the Orientation program and will become a great resource for you at orientation and after. Our FYE Mentor staff are current students at UNF that have completed rigorous trainning, and are very passionate about helping our new students transition to UNF. Feel free to ask them if you have any questions along the way!

During your time at New Student Orientation, you'll make connections with various staff and faculty and learn about helpful resources available to you as a UNF student. You'll learn how to navigate your myWings account to find important information about financial aid, your bill, your courses, registration, and more.

Before you register for your first UNF course schedule, you'll meet your first-year advisor who will assist you through your first year. You will discuss your selected major, goals, and course options with your advisor before registering for classes.

After meeting with your academic advisor, you'll be assisted by our First Year Mentor staff and advising staff in the registration lab to help create your first UNF course schedule.

After Orientation

UNF uses a virtual parking permit system, that allows you to link your vehicle via plate number to your parking permit. Parking enforcement will scan your tag to verify you have the correct permit when you are parked in one of our UNF parking locations. Purchase your UNF Parking Permit in mywings. myWings > Student Tools > Parking Account > Purchase Permit
