As part of our the Lesbian and Gay programming week in our LGBTQ History Month programming, we are hosting a screening of the documentary, Mucho Mucho Amor: The Life of Walter Mercado. Following the screening, there will be a and Q & A with the director, Kareem Tabsch. Sponsored by the UNF LGBT Resource Center, UNF Department of Diversity Initiatives, and the University of Alabama.

As we kick-off LGBTQ History Month, join us virtually with President Szymanski and keynote speaker, Brian Silva, the founder and Executive Director of the National Equality Action Team (NEAT) and National Equality Action Team Fund (NEATEF). We will also hear from Pride Club president Jasmine Graham, and unveil of our new installation, Wings of Pride. 

Brian Silva is the Founder and Executive Director of the National Equality Action Team (NEAT) and National Equality Action Team Fund (NEATEF) will be our Keynote Speaker. He has been a leader in the LGBTQ+ advocacy community for more than a decade with a proven track record in executive leadership, organizational development, coalition building, organizing and empowering volunteers. Brian served as Executive Director first of Marriage Equality New York (MENY) and later Marriage Equality USA (MEUSA), which was one of the nation’s oldest and largest volunteer, grassroots LGBTQ+ groups. Under his leadership, multiple states and the U.S. Supreme Court passed marriage equality across the nation.

"Coming out of the closet" or mostly known as "coming out" is when a person reveals an important part of their identity to those who are important in their life. Some people do not find it necessary or safe to coming out. In this event, we'll be sharing our reasons and stories for coming out or why we don't feel it's necessary to come out.

Part of our the Bisexual and Pansexual programming week in our LGBTQ History Month programming. Did you know that a larger percent of LGBTQ+ individuals identify with the bisexual+ identity label than any other label? If you didn’t, you’re not alone. There are many forms of bi-erasure that happen in our every day lives which distort our view of bisexual+ individuals and identities. If you want to learn more about the phenomenon of bi-erasure, join the LGBT Resource Center along with our former director, Kaitlin Legg, for an informative look at bi+ identities and the all too common practice of bi-erasure.

Part of our the Asexuality, Aromantic, and Intersex programming week in our LGBTQ History Month programming. You might have heard the term “asexual” and wondered how it can possibly apply to human seeing as how we can’t reproduce on our own. Well asexuality – sometimes referred to as the grey spectrum – refers to a sexual orientation commonly used by individuals who do not feel significant sexual attraction. Still a little confused? Don’t worry – the LGBT Resource Center will be hosting an event called “Asexuality and the Romantics” where we will explore the commonly misunderstood sexuality as well as a newer concept: romantic orientation.
