Safe Space and Support

It is the goal of the LGBTQ Center to make the entire UNF campus a safe space for all students, faculty and staff, and inclusive of sexual orientation, gender identity and expression. The center strives to be a welcoming, comfortable space by offering the following resources:

  • Physical safe space to study, socialize, learn, explore and organize
  • Information and referrals to campus and community resources
  • Advising for students, one-on-one and in groups
  • Support for LGBT student organizations, including PRIDE
  • Support/discussion groups for identity-specific populations on campus
  • Ally development resources
  • Mentorship opportunities


The LGBTQ Center offers ongoing educational opportunities for UNF students, faculty and staff on gender and sexuality. These opportunities include:

  • Resource library with books and DVDs available for check-out
  • Speakers Bureau presentations in academic courses throughout campus
  • Guest lectures in academic courses on gender, sexuality and diversity
  • Workshops and training sessions for campus departments and organizations
  • Safe Space training program for students, faculty and staff
  • Intergroup Dialogue social justice education program for students, faculty and staff
  • Listing of LGBT-related academic courses each semester
  • Support to students, faculty and staff researching gender and sexuality

Involvement and Leadership

Looking to get involved on campus or in the community? The LGBTQ Center acts as a clearinghouse for information related to LGBT events and opportunities, and offers several programs designed to engage students and encourage leadership, such as:

  • Volunteer, internship and student employment opportunities
  • Bi-weekly e-mail newsletter listing LGBT-related events and opportunities
  • Website and Facebook page with LGBT resources and events
  • Meeting and event space for student organizations
  • Support to LGBT and ally faculty and staff
  • Advocacy for LGBT students, faculty and staff
  • Consulting with campus departments and administrators on policies and practices
