Telephone Services

Also known as: Phone Information

The University uses Nortel telephones. Services include digital telephones, conference calling, cell phone service, courtesy phones, emergency phones (Code Blue), long distance calling, and the directory found on the phone.

How to Use

Who do I contact if I need my phone or phone line moved?

You will need to submit an ITSR - Information Technology Services Request.

I'm having trouble with my phone line - who do I contact?

The ITS Help Desk needs to be contacted. You may submit a trouble ticket at help.unf.ed or contact them by phone Their phone number (if you can find another working phone) is 620-HELP (4357) or e-mail them at helpdesk@unf.edu

Where may I find a campus phone directory?

There is a campus directory at http://www.unf.edu/phonedir. This site provides both a public (is available to anyone on the internet and only list department numbers for individuals) and internal directory, which lists an employee's direct extension.

Who do I contact to update the name on my phone or in the phone directory?

If you need to change your name or location you will need to submit an ITSR - Information Technology Services Request which can be done at help.unf.edu or contact the help desk by phone (904) 620-4357 or e-mail helpdesk@unf.edu If there is a problem with your title or department listing you will need to contact HR as this information is updated depending on the information they have on file.

Who do I contact with phone billing questions?

Billing questions or concerns should be directed to Pat Rodgers at (904) 620-2201 or e-mail csvmail@unf.edu

How do I make an emergency call?

Listen for dial tone.

Dial 911.

The 911 call will be routed to University Police Department (UPD). UPD will see, on their dispatch telephones, the building and room number from which the call is being made.

How do I make a local call?

Listen for dial tone.

Dial 9 + the local 7-digit number.

How do I make a long distance call?

Your telephone must be classified as capable of making long-distance calls.

Listen for dial tone.

Dial 9 + 1 + the 10-digit number.

How do I make an international call?

Your telephone must be classified as capable of making International calls.

Listen for dial tone.

Dial 9 + 011 + the country code, city code, and number.

Can I call toll-free numbers?

Yes. Listen for dial tone.

Dial 9 + 1 + (800 or 877 or 866) + 7-digit number.

Can I make operator assisted calls?

Yes. Listen for dial tone.

Dial 9 + 00.

Operator-assisted calls will incur a charge.

Login to a new IX messaging voicemail box

  1. Dial the IX Messaging extension number (3900) DO NOT PRESS #
  2. Were you prompted for your voice mail password?
    1. If yes, go to Step 3 (this means the station is "integrated" to voicemail)
    2. If yes, but you'd like to login to a different mailbox, press *
    3. If no, enter your full extension number.
  3. Key in the default password, which is 11+ your extension (This temporary password is for initial set-up only)
  4. The system will guide you through a tutorial to establish your new Voicemail on first login.
    1. Create a new password. Press # to continue.
    2. Your password must be four digits long (minimum).
    3. Record your Personal Greeting. Press # to continue.
    4. Record your Name Greeting. Press # to continue.

To retrieve messages that others have left for you

  1. Access Voicemail, Login to your mailbox.
  2. The system may announce to number of Unread/Read messages
  3. Unread (New) Messages will automatically begin to play. Envelope information including Caller ID of the caller may be played with each message.
    1. To skip envelope information you may press #
     
  4. You may press 6 to skip to the next message; 76 to delete; or 73 to forward

To re-record your personal greeting

  • Login to IX Messaging and press 821
  • Follow the prompts to record and save

To change your password

  • Login to IX Messaging and press 84

To re-record your voiced-in name

  • Login to IX Messaging and press 829
  • Follow the prompts to record and save

To transfer directly to voice mail (Express Messaging)

  1. Transfer the caller to extension (3901)
  2. Key in the target mailbox number. DO NOT PRESS #
  3. Complete the transfer.

To check messages for a mailbox different from your own

  1. Dial (3900)
  2. Press *
  3. Using your touchtone keypad, enter desired mailbox number. DO NOT PRESS #
  4. When prompted, using your touchtone keypad enter the password

Suggestions for Voice Mail Personal Greetings

Generic Greetings:

 

"Hello (Hi), you have reached (your name) with the department of (insert department) at the University of North Florida. I am either on my other line or away from my desk, so please leave your name, telephone number and a detailed message after the tone and I'll return your call as soon as possible. Thank you."
