Windows 11 at UNF

About Windows 11

Microsoft released their latest operating system (OS), Windows 11, on October 5, 2021. This latest version of Windows is being sent out to devices worldwide as part of normal updates.

For UNF Devices

Devices that are owned and managed by UNF will not be automatically receiving the update to Windows 11 for the time being. UNF ITS will evaluate the new OS regarding compatibility and management within UNF's hardware and software environment.

In addition to testing, UNF has some devices which cannot upgrade to Windows 11. The upgrade to Windows 11 requires a processor type that is not present on a subset of UNF devices. Early analysis shows that most devices owned by UNF will be capable of running Windows 11. Systems that cannot run Windows 11 will continue to run Windows 10 until the end of its anticipated support lifecycle.

The current standard Operating System at UNF is Windows 10. This version of Windows will remain relevant and continue to receive updates through 2025.

UNF ITS will provide Windows 11 as an upgrade option in the coming months. UNF ITS support will include Windows 10 and Windows 11 concurrently as the transition to the new standard Operating System is completed before 2025.

We share in the excitement that can surround a new Operating System and look forward to fully supporting this OS at UNF.

An early adopter program for Windows 11 at UNF will be announced at a future date.

For Personal Devices

Windows 11 will become available as an update for existing systems or be the installed OS on new personal device purchases. This is a free update for devices that run Windows and meet the minimum requirements for the new OS. Upgrading is an individual's choice on their own devices. Individuals that do choose to upgrade can expect the same level of support from UNF ITS that they receive for Windows 10 on their personal devices.
