Other Opportunities Abroad

In addition to Exchange Programs and Faculty-Led study abroad courses, UNF has affiliations with a growing number of opportunities that provide you the tools to study at a variety of universities abroad, as well as other resources that may benefit you in finding your perfect program.

Florida Universities

Another Florida university may have a study abroad program that better suits what you are looking for in a program. These options are especially beneficial if you are a Florida resident and/or you are receiving Florida financial aid. Although there is some paperwork involved, enrolling as a transient student in another Florida university's exchange program is much simpler than applying as if you were a degree-seeking student. Transient student enrollment for an exchange is contingent upon various factors (available space, etc.) so please contact the UNF International Center first if you are interested in this option.

Partners

In addition to Exchange Programs and Faculty-Led study abroad courses, UNF has connected and worked with a growing number of third party programs that provide you the opportunity to study at a variety of universities abroad. If you are looking for a specific area of study and/or host country, third party programs are able to provide a match for you. Students can even explore virtual study abroad options. Representatives from many of these organizations participate in the International Center Study Abroad Fair held in the fall semester each year.

The following sites have large databases that can let you search for a program by country, field of study, term length, etc:

Intern, Research or Attend a Conference Abroad

Internships Abroad

UNF students have the opportunity to shape their education and career by interning abroad. Depending upon details of your internship and your major, planning an internship abroad can be a more independent option. These opportunities may be organized individually, coordinated by a college or department, or facilitated by a program provider. Internship abroad opportunities are almost always unpaid. Virtual internships with companies and organizations abroad are also options for students.

While the International Center does not specifically have internships abroad posted, we can help suggest some avenues. Below are the three college departments that offer internships abroad:

Please make sure you are in communication with your academic advisor and study abroad coordinator to best understand your options. If you are interested in an internship abroad, please contact Payton Cantrell for more information.

Conference, Research, & Volunteer Abroad

The International Center is dedicated to expanding the global understanding of the UNF community. As a result, students at UNF attend conferences or conduct research abroad. These opportunities may be organized individually, coordinated by a college or department, or facilitated by a program provider.

Volunteering abroad gives students the opportunity to help others while also immersing themselves in a new culture. Volunteer opportunities may be organized individually; coordinated by a college, department, or student organization; or facilitated by a program provider. Volunteer abroad allows for increased independence, and it may be a great opportunity for past study abroad students to go abroad again. Volunteer abroad opportunities are almost always unpaid.

Make sure you talk with your Study Abroad Coordinator to best understand the process for traveling abroad. If you are interested in volunteering, in attending a conference, or conducting research abroad, please contact Payton Cantrell to best understand the processes involved.
