Fulbright Program
Fulbright Program Overview
The prestigious Fulbright program was established by legislation introduced by Senator J. William Fulbright in 1945. The purpose of the program is to promote international good will through student exchanges. Since becoming law in 1946, about 360,000 faculty and upper-level students have been awarded grants to lecture or study abroad in over 160 countries as participants in the program. Grants are administered by the US Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, and awarded through a competitive application process.
A full description of the program and awards is available at the Department of State website. More information is presented on the website of the Institute of International Education.
