New Employee Resources
Welcome to the University of North Florida! We're glad to have you as a new employee. Please take a few moments to familiarize yourself with the University, as well as prepare yourself for your first day of work. We hope you will have a long and rewarding career here at UNF!
What to bring on your first day
- A photo identification card* (e.g., driver's license, state ID, school ID, military ID, passport, etc.) - to verify your identity
- A social security card, or birth certificate, or passport* - to verify your work eligibility
- A voided personal check** - for direct deposit
- Completed new hire forms
*All personal identification documents must be valid (unexpired) and the original document. Click here for a complete list of documents. An official copy of a birth certificate, or a receipt from the social security administration office are acceptable substitutes for an original birth certificate or original social security card. Personal identification documents must be presented in person, and may not be faxed or e-mailed.
**Direct deposit is required for all employees. In the event you are unable to provide a personal check, you may provide a printout or letter from your financial institution stating your name and account and routing numbers.
Where to go on your first day
Unless otherwise instructed by your supervisor, please report to the Office of Human Resources in order to process for payroll. The Office of Human Resources is located in building 1, J. J. Daniel Hall, room 1101, on the main UNF campus. When arriving on campus for orientation, stop at Parking Services (at the I-295 campus entrance) to obtain a parking pass. Park in the parking garage next to the Arena, building 38, second floor or above. You may wish to print out a campus map and bring it with you.
New Employee Orientation - "Welcome to the Nest"
The Office of Human Resources conducts a bi-weekly new employee orientation, called "Welcome to the Nest". This orientation is held every other Monday beginning at 8 a.m. in the Office of Human Resources. All new administrative and support staff employees are required to attend new employee orientation on their first day of employment.* Hiring departments are requested to notify the Office of Human Resources by phone at (904) 620-2903 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org in order to schedule a new administrative or support staff employee to attend new employee orientation.
Employees attending Welcome to the Nest will meet representatives from various departments including the University Police Department (UPD), Physical Facilities, Auxiliary & Business Services, the Center for Professional Development and Training (CPDT), Information Technology Services (ITS), Equal Opportunity & Diversity (EOD) and Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S). A campus tour is included, so please dress accordingly. In addition, new employees will get their Osprey ID card, learn about myWings & UNF email, annual and sick leave usage, and insurance benefits. Welcome to the Nest runs until approximately 4:00 p.m. Employees attending Welcome to the Nest will report to their departments after the program ends.
*Departments may request new full-time other personnel service (OPS) employees to attend. New faculty members will attend the annual new faculty orientation scheduled by Academic Affairs.
New Hire Access Form
In order to allow a new employee* to be granted UNF network access, a UNF e-mail address, and the ability to obtain an Osprey ID card and parking pass on the employee's first day, an electronic New Hire Access Form should be completed by the hiring department and submitted to the Office of Human Resources at least 24 hours before the employee's first day. The information on the new hire access form will be input into Banner, generating an N-number for the employee.
*The new hire access form may be used for the following employee types: faculty, administrative, support staff, adjunct, full-time OPS, temporary/contractor (non-UNF employee). The new hire access form may not be used for the following employee types: part-time OPS, student employees. Additionally, the new hire access form may not be used to change a current employee's class or type. It is only to be used to generate an N-number for a newly hired employee.
