Stress is anything that causes us to feel unpleasant, overwhelmed, anxious, nervous, or out of control. It can come from people, animals, issues with finances, relationships, time, school, work, or a number of other things (which is called a stressor). Stress is basically a response to the demands that have been placed upon us in our daily lives.
We experience the symptoms of stress when the demands in our lives outweigh our ability to handle them, which is increased the more that we can’t handle those demands. Too much stress over time can cause our bodies to build up tension in the form of “stress by-products” that can lead to many illnesses and/or diseases.
We all tend to feel overwhelmed at times when it comes to dealing with stressful situations. Finding ways to manage stress is not as difficult as it may seem. By taking charge of our thoughts and emotions, as well as managing our time and using relaxation techniques, we can dramatically decrease the amount of stress we experience. This will lead to balanced life, giving us more time for fun and the ability to meet challenges head on!
