Internships and Capstones

Completing an internship or capstone is an excellent way to gain real world experience. The Institute of Environmental Research and Education (IERE) provides students from across campus with opportunities to work on special projects while developing hard skills. Most students that work with the IERE receive academic credit through their major department or receive credit for completing a required capstone.

Sawmill Slough Preserve Research

There is an ongoing effort by the IERE to document the biological diversity and historical importance of the Sawmill Slough Preserve. Student interns will assist faculty and staff in collecting samples, organizing data and contribute to the Preserve Digital Archive.

Green Jax Project – Environmental Health Blog

Project Green Jax is an environmental health blog that aims to inform individuals about environmental health topics and provide resources and guides. Students will contribute to the blog by doing research on specific topics and writing blog posts. The blog was originally created by public health graduate student Alane Ertel.

Communications

Effective communications is critical for any organization to succeed. The IERE is looking for students to help spread the word about its programs and impact. Communications interns will have the opportunity to gain experience with digital design, website creation, print media, writing blogs, social media and more!
