UNF Online


UNF Online is an Academic Affairs unit that provides leadership for the development and delivery of high-quality online learning experiences that meet the needs of learners and that extend access to degree programs in areas of strategic emphasis.

What We Do

  • Coordinate support services for online students
  • Develop and disseminate policies and procedures for online learning
  • Coordinate marketing and recruiting efforts for online programs 
  • Provide admission support and retention services for UNF Online programs
  • Provide data and analysis for online learning efforts 
  • Support online degree program development
  • Distance learning enrollment management
  • Manage FloridaShines online course and program upload 
  • Manage distance learning auxiliary funds 
  • Coordinate State Authorization of distance education
  • Manage online course design quality reviews and reporting
  • Collaborate with faculty on research projects related to online teaching and learning 

Who We Are

Deb Miller, Assistant Vice-President for Digital Learning and Innovation,, (904) 620-1416

Deb Miller    Dr. Miller came to UNF in 2001 from the Duval County public school system, where she served as a classroom and resource teacher for several years. She earned a doctorate in Educational Leadership and a M.Ed. in Instructional Technology from UNF and is an OLC certified Online Instructor. Her dissertation research focused on the influence of institutional and individual factors in faculty decisions to teach online. In her free time, she enjoys gardening, hiking, and spending time with her family.

Katharine Brown, Assistant Director of DL Student Services,, (904) 620-1306

Katharine Brown    Katharine brings over 30 years of experiences at UNF to her role as the Assistant Director for DL Student Services. She has an MBA and an M.S. in Computer & Information Sciences from UNF. In ITS for 10 years, she worked on the network and user services teams before joining the faculty in the School of Computing. For over 14 years, Katharine was the Lead Advisor in the College of Computing, Engineering and Construction, and a Senior Instructor in the School of Computing.

Sherry Hays, Assistant Director, Online Student Success,

staff-sherry-hays    Sherry Hays has worked in higher education for more than 17 years. She has been at UNF since 2009, and has worked in various roles in public relations and enrollment services. In her most recent role as a transfer student services coordinator, she was responsible for transfer student recruitment, as well as the liaison for UNF's partnership program with Florida State College at Jacksonville, FSCJ/UNF Connect. Sherry is passionate about student success and joined UNF Online in March 2019 to assist online students with the admissions and onboarding process. She is currently pursuing a M.S. of Higher Education Administration at UNF, and in her spare time, enjoys reading classical literature and writing poetry and short stories.

Kevin Hulen, Assistant Director, Quality and Assessment,, (904) 620-5753

Kevin Hulen    Kevin Hulen has been involved in the design and development of online content for over 20 years. He came to UNF in 2012 from the University of Florida (UF), where he earned graduate degrees in Biology and Education. Kevin currently focuses on the implementation of institutional-initiatives related to impact of online learning, including student satisfaction, faculty satisfaction, student success factors, and other analytics related to online course quality and review. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with family, playing soccer, and surfing.

Patrice Kapcio, Assistant Director, Online Programs,, (904) 620-1385

Patrice Kapcio    Patrice came to CIRT after working in the UNF Graduate School for four years. She earned a B.A. in English from Westminster College in Pennsylvania and a M.Ed. in Educational Leadership at UNF. She is a volunteer puppy raiser for Canine Companions for Independence and is currently raising her fifth puppy, Nika.

Nika, Service Dog in Training

Nika    Nika, a native of Santa Rosa, CA, works part-time in the office to learn basic commands and etiquette as part of her training to be an assistance dog with Canine Companions for Independence. Nika will leave the team in May of 2019 to pursue advanced training in Orlando, FL where she aspires to earn certification with ADI (Assistance Dogs International) and to provide exceptional service to an exceptional person.

Megan Lichty, Budget Coordinator,, (904) 620-5391

Megan Lichty    Megan has worked at UNF since 2009 while earning a bachelor’s degree in business administration and an MBA degree. She joined CIRT in May 2017 as coordinator of budgets and enjoys learning more about finance and accounting in higher education. In her free time, Megan likes to spend time with family, be outside with her dog, and crochet.

Tina Stanton, Program Assistant,, (904) 620-5174

Tina Stanton    Tina earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History at the University of North Florida in 2014. Prior to joining UNF as a member of the staff, she worked at UPS while continuing her education. Tina is a Jacksonville native, has raised two children, and currently has four grandchildren. She considers family a priority in her life and often makes time for travel and recreation in order to enhance her personal experiences and relationships.
