CAP 3.0: Identifying a Pathway Forward

During the summer and fall of 2018, executive leadership, faculty, staff, students, and community partners were invited to contribute to dialogue and narrative capturing UNF’s deepening of community engagement over the last decade. Through answering questions from the Carnegie 2020 Community Engagement Reclassification Application, CAP 3.0 members collectively explored Foundational Indicators of Community Engagement, Curricular Community Engagement, Co-curricular Community Engagement, and Outreach & Partnerships. In most cases, small teams were formed around each Carnegie question. These teams drafted a narrative that was then reviewed and edited by the Center for Community-Based Learning director and staff. The goal was to identify more areas of strengths than any one office or department might know, while simultaneously discovering opportunities for growth that the University should focus on improving (in terms of Community Engagement) over the next decade. As such, teams were asked to include a reflection with suggestions for deepening community engagement in the future. Though complex, the end result was a truly collaborative Carnegie Reclassification Application, as well as an executive summary that identifies a pathway for continuous improvement.
