Change a degree-major of an existing program

Bachelor of Arts – English Major

Summary of Changes:

We are revising the Program of Study for the English major. The rationale for this revision is as follows:

  1. We are simplifying the listing of course options in four sections of the POS by indicating which prefixes (and on rare occasion an accompanying course number) satisfy the option rather than listing every one of the options by prefix, number, and title;
  2. We are adding DIG (Digital Humanities) courses as options under "Communication and Content--Choose 1: Communications, Performance, or Production: Creative Writing, Advanced Writing, Film, New Media, or Theater/Drama " and under "Communications, Performance, or Production: Creative Writing, Advanced Writing, Film, New Media, or Theater/Drama--Choose 1: Communications, Performance, or Production: Creative Writing, Advanced Writing, Film, New Media, or Theater/Drama";
  3. We are making FIL3363 (a production course) the only FIL option available under "Communication and Content--Choose 1: Communications, Performance, or Production: Creative Writing, Advanced Writing, Film, New Media, or Theater/Drama";
  4. We are placing all of the 3000-level FIL courses (excluding 3363) under "Communication and Content--Choose 2: Reading, Contexts, Authors, and Methods: Historical, Literary, or Cultural Studies";
  5. We are placing all of the 4000-level FIL courses (excluding 4379, a production course) under "Critical Thinking, Communication, and Content--Choose 3: Advanced Studies in Authors, Cultures, Literary Theories or Topics";
  6. We are removing the THE courses "Critical Thinking, Communication, and Content-- Choose 3: Advanced Studies in Authors, Cultures, Literary Theories or Topics";
  7. We are making FIL4379 the only FIL course qualifying under "Critical Thinking, Communication, and Content-- Choose 1: Communications, Performance, or Production: Creative Writing, Advanced Writing, Film, New Media, or Theater/Drama";
  8. We are adding language regarding the required Capstone project in order to both make specific and broaden the scope of what courses and activities can satisfy it; and
  9. We are removing Japanese, Latin, and Russian from the Foreign Language options because these three languages are not being taught at UNF at the present time.

These changes will result in a degree program that will remain 120 hours and that will not exceed this number.

Add a new non-degree program

Certificate - Performer's Certificate Program

Summary of Changes:

This request is to create an undergraduate certificate in music performance that is analogous to our post-baccalaureate certificate in music performance that already exists. Several of the School of Music's faculty have cultivated professional relationships with music teachers and music schools in other countries (e.g., Japan), and as a result have the opportunity to recruit highly talented young musicians to study with them at UNF. This is beneficial both to the students themselves (as part of their overall training and development) and to the School of Music, since it increases the diversity of our student body and gives our other students an opportunity to perform and study with aspiring musicians from around the world.

The certificate requires a minimum residency of 1 year, which may be extended to up to three years (with the approval of the student's major advisor).

In addition to 4 credits of required coursework each semester (2 credits of applied lessons, 1 credit of chamber ensemble, and 1 credit of a large or small ensemble), students in the program would have specific performance requirements/expectations. (Students would also be allowed to take electives beyond their required coursework.)

No new courses or additional resources are being requested as part of this package.

Permission of the instructor is required to register for this course.
