Add a new concentration to an existing program
Bachelor of Science - Communication Major
Concentration: Digital Video Production
Summary of the changes:
The B.S. in Communication's major concentration in "Multimedia Journalism and Production" is requesting to split into two major concentrations: "Multimedia Journalism" and "Digital Video Production." The current APC package deals with Digital Video Production. Another APC package (201708-43) changes the current concentration from "Multimedia Journalism and Production" to "Multimedia Journalism concentration."
The Department of Communication is requesting to create the Digital Video Production major concentration within the B.S. in Communication major and expand the relevant course offerings accordingly. Upon completing the suggested Program of Study, students will demonstrate clear proficiency with all fundamental aspects of video production. As part of the creation the new concentration the following six new courses will be created:
RTV 3xxx Digital Video Editing (3 credits)
RTV 4xxx Lighting for Production (3 credits)
RTV 4xxx Documentary Fundamentals (3 credits)
RTV 4xxx Digital Video Effects (3 credits)
RTV 4xxx Narrative Production (3 credits)
RTV 4xxx Corporate Production (3 credits)
Also, the following five courses will be removed from what was previously the Multimedia Journalism and Production concentration:

CRW 3610 Screenwriting Workshop (3 credits)
FIL3363 Documentary Production (3 credits)
FIL4363 Advanced Documentary Production (3 credits)
MUM 3701 The Music Business (3 credits)
No new resources will be required and the concentration will not exceed 120 hours required to graduate. There are enough existing faculty and students to accommodate the Digital Video Production major concentration.
Consumer and professional demand for high quality video content has been rising for years, which makes it desirable for students to be able to competently produce professional video for diverse subject areas.
