Principles in Biology

This request is to separate BSC1005C (4 credits) into a 3 credit lecture course (BSC1005) and a 1 credit lab course (BSC1005L). This is a general education Biology course for non-majors. We are requesting this change so that we can convert the lecture portion of the course to entirely an online format and be designated as such. In the current combined format, the in person lab means than an on-line lecture is not counted towards the number of UNF courses that are provided online. The in person lab will be a stand alone 1 credit co-requisite to the course. Please ensure that the co-req is properly listed as BSC1005L. The system will not add the L to the course in the co-req box.
New Course Description:
This course is designed to introduce students to the science of life. This survey course will cover a wide range of topics from the molecular components of the cell to the interaction of organisms with their environment. The goal of this course is to familiarize students with diverse components of life and to introduce the major areas of study within the discipline.

Course Description:
The laboratory component of this course provides students with an overview of the major topics within biology.
It is designed to evoke interest, curiosity, and enthusiasm for biology. During this course students will learn to use the scientific method and common lab procedures in order to perform biological investigations. Laboratory assignments and quizzes will be used to evaluate students’ understanding of biological processes, laboratory techniques, and concepts presented within the laboratory.

This request is to change the course number for "PHY 1033 - Discovering Physics" to "PHY 1020 - Discovering Physics" such that it would then be classified as a state common core course as it was intended to be at its creation. This is a conceptual course with no math, offered for non Science and Engineering majors. Currently the course number, PHY 1020 is used for a different course titled "Introduction to Physics", a math based course for Science and Engineering majors. As part of this APC, we also request to change the course number for "Introduction to Physics" to "PHY 2020 - Introduction to Physics". In conjunction with these changes, the course numbers of the associated lab courses will also be changed accordingly.

This is the laboratory course that accompanies the "PHY 1033 Discovering Physics" lecture course. The requested change to the course number for this lab course is to reflect the course number change for the lecture course from "PHY 1033 Discovering Physics" to "PHY 1020 Discovering Physics".
Currently the course number, PHY 1020L is used for "Introduction to Physics Lab". As part of this APC, we also request to change the course number for "Introduction to Physics Lab" to "PHY 2020L".
New Course Description:

Description: This is the laboratory course that accompanies the PHY 1020 Discovering Physics lecture course. This course is three hours of laboratory including labs on energy, force, electricity and magnetism, optics, and radioactivity. The course will emphasize conceptual understanding rather than mathematical descriptions. This course is not intended for students planning to major in science or engineering.

This request is to change the course number for "PHY 1020 - Introduction to Physics" (a math based course intended for Science and Engineering majors) to "PHY 2020 - Introduction to Physics". This change is to accommodate "PHY 1033 - Discovering Physics" (a conceptual course with no math offered for non Science and Engineering majors) to take the course number "PHY 1020 - Discovering Physics" such that the latter would then be classified as a state common core course. In conjunction with these changes, the course numbers of the associated lab courses will also be changed accordingly.
The change of course number from "PHY 1020 - Introduction to Physics" to "PHY 2020 - Introduction to Physics" is in line with similar courses offered at other SUS universities (i.e. University of Florida offers a similar course "PHY 2020 - Introduction to Principles of Physics").

Description: This course is the laboratory that explores the topics covered in the PHY 2020 Introduction to Physics lecture course. The experiments will involve laboratory exercises dealing with kinematics of free fall and projectile motion, forces and motion, laws of conservation of energy and momentum, optical laws of reflection and refraction, the behavior of lenses, basic electric circuits, electromagnetic forces, standing waves, and heat phenomena. Availability: This course is normally available Fall and Spring terms only. Course Fees: $25

Description: This course will enroll declared Civil, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering majors only. Students planning to major or minor in Physics, however, are advised to take "PHY2048 - Calculus-based Physics I" instead. This course surveys fundamental laws and phenomena of mechanics, vibrations and waves, and selected topics in heat and fluids. Emphasis will be placed on the mathematical analysis of physical problems using calculus. The problems will involve physics applications to engineering when possible. Students who have passed a year of high school physics with a minimum grade of B can request to have the PHY2020 prerequisite waived by the engineering student advisor.

In this course students will learn about the processes, methods, and administrative responsibilities of designing and implementing effective musical theater and show choir programs as a component of a well-rounded school choral music program. Topics may include but are not limited to combining vocal music with choreography, costumes, stage sets, and theater lighting. Students will also learn to assess show choir performances using rubrics designed by the Florida Vocal Association.

Through online course work, examination of the twelve studio recorded albums, and the review of online media and written material published about this band, the student will become familiar with the epic saga of the legendary music and career of The Beatles. There are no prerequisites for the course and reading music is not necessary.

MUM2634 (Digital Audio Production) currently has MUM1620 (Audio and Acoustics) as its only prerequisite. We would like to remove this prerequisite and replace it with MUM1630 (Introduction to Digital Audio). The Music Technology faculty believe that MUM1630 is a more appropriate prerequisite for MUM2634 than is MUM1620. Furthermore, the existing program of study for the Bachelor of Music degree in Technology and Production requires students to take MUM2634 before they take MUM1630, not after, which is creating registration problems for our students. No other changes are being requested for this course, and no changes to any programs of study are being requested in this package.

We would like to remove MUM2677 (Sound Reinforcement and Music Production) as a prerequisite for MUM2942 (Music Technology Practicum). The Music Technology faculty do not believe that successful completion of MUM2677 is necessary for students to take MUM2942. Furthermore, the existing program of study for the Bachelor of Music degree in Technology and Production requires MUM2677 to be taken at the same time as MUM2942, not before, which is creating registration problems for our students. No other changes are being requested for this course, and no changes to any programs of study are being requested in this package. Please note: APC package 201808-120 is also changing MUM2942 (by making it repeatable up to four times), but that change and the change being requested in this package do not affect each other.

Course Description:
The UNF Drumline is a performing ensemble that is part of the School of Music. Maintaining a visible performance schedule on and off campus, the drumline gives live performances at events including sporting events, commencement, TV appearances, recruitment tours, and performances in conjunction with the percussion studio. This ensemble is open to students from across the university, including both music majors and non-music majors who desire to continue performing throughout college. Weekly rehearsals and regular performances that occur throughout the semester are required. Acceptance and placement in the drumline is determined by audition each semester. Instruments and materials needed are provided. Departmental and instructor permission are required.
