Total year instructional days plus examination days exceed the required 220 days per year required by BOG regulation.
The spring and fall term MW and TTh instructional days are fairly consistent in length at 28 to 30 days each.
Summer term spans at least 12 weeks while A & B parts of term lengths are equivalent in instructional days. This has been a faculty concern in the past.
Fall and spring terms span at least 15 weeks minus final exam week per UNF policy and Federal Financial Aid disbursement regulation.
Some term start dates will require exception requests with the BOG. This is neither new nor unique to UNF.
The days in the weeks of Thanksgiving and spring break are not counted as instructional time. These were specific changes approved and implemented in the 2019/20 calendar last year.

The Calendar Committee voted for spring terms to start on Wednesdays on both the 2021 and 2022 calendars. Though there is a preference to begin terms on Mondays, the committee felt it was too close to the New Year holiday and did not accommodate time for student service needs to be addressed such as financial aid and registration adjustment.
This has implications on one-day-a-week classes. For example, Monday classes would have 13 sessions while Wednesday or Thursday classes would have 15 sessions.

Starting on the Monday would add more instructional time to one-day-a-week classes as well as to the spring calendar as a whole.
There is a tight turnaround between summer A and summer B part of term starts in June. Specifically, A ends on a Friday and B begins the next Monday. The committee did not find concern as this has been done in prior years. They also were not concerned that A final grades would be due after B started.

There is no other solution to this tight turnaround other than losing instructional time or cutting into intercession time.
