Exceptional, Deaf, & Interpreter Education – Graduate

Change a degree-major-concentration of an existing program

Master of Science - ASL/English Interpreting Major

Concentration: General Practice

Summary of the changes:

The program is being revised to remove two courses (INT6944 Interpreting Internship, 6 credits and INT6277 ASL Expansion and Compression Technique, 3 credits), add a new course (INT6xxx DeafBlind Interpreting, 3 credits), and revise the title of a course (INT6425 Interpreting in Legal Settings to “Legal Interpreting”). The revised program will have 30 credits rather than 36 hours as in the current program. Program faculty have unanimously agreed to remove the Internship (INT6944) from the program of study. The internship has been optional for students who were not nationally certified interpreters and the nature of the internship has not enhanced the overall experience for students. In that the majority of graduate students enter our program with full-time employment and are already working interpreters, the internship is not necessary. An additional benefit to students is a shorter program of study and a financial savings as well. The program also desires to be more competitive as a graduate program and eliminating the internship helps in this area as well.  An outdated course (INT6277) is being removed from the program and a new course which focuses on interpreting for individuals who are DeafBlind is being added. Finally, in an effort to have consistency across specialty area courses the title of INT6425 is being modified.

Leadership, School Counseling, & Sport Management – Graduate

Change a degree-major of an existing program

Master of Education - Counselor Education Major

Summary of the changes:

Request a course title change from the current title, SDS 6831 Management of Resources to a change in the title to SDS 6831 Internship: Management of Resources. This change will allow for students to complete field experiences over a second term. Students taking this course would have completed SDS 6830 Internship: Counseling/Coordination and received the necessary fingerprinting through SDS 6830 in order to continue with SDS 6831 Internship: Management of Resources. The proposed changed course will remain in the same sequence and will not add to the time of study or the number of credit hours (48) needed to complete the program of study.
