Diversity in Business

twoColumn twoLeft
The University of North Florida Coggin College of Business is committed to serving minority students and increasing diversity among our incoming students.

Our students can be assured they’ll have a college experience that goes well beyond earning a degree. The Diversity in Business Program was founded with the objective of increasing student diversity while increasing minority admissions, enrollment and graduates. The Diversity in Business Program promotes inclusiveness and belonging while reinforcing the identity of students from multi-cultural backgrounds. The Coggin College of Business is not just a by-the-numbers institution. Our students, mentors, partners and contributors represent diverse backgrounds and experiences that not only benefit our student body, but our community as well.

UNF’s campus is located in a multifaceted business hub in Jacksonville. This environment provides an avenue for our students who seek direct access to professional settings run by skilled managers and professionals who can serve as mentors. And in Jacksonville, the business landscape is ripe with many leaders who have their own minority-run businesses.

Key Diversity in Business Programs

  • Project Osprey We have Coggin College of Business students who engage in high school outreach making sure students understand the opportunities they have available to them in Jacksonville. It ensures those students are college ready. This project demonstrates how minority students can have access to a respected business school while remaining financially accessible.
  • Peer Mentorship This program matches some of our newer minority students with upper-level students who make sure students of color have support in the Coggin College of Business. That support extends to their academic, social and emotional journey through college and reinforces a feeling of belonging.

Diversity in Business Peer-Mentor Requirements

  • Maintain a minimum 2.5 cumulative G.P.A.
  • Complete the application below and submit a 500-word personal statement regarding why you would like to become a peer mentor
  • Attend a three-day summer leadership intensive seminar
  • Have experience with diverse cultural and personal backgrounds
  • Have a positive attitude and enthusiasm about UNF and the Coggin College of Business

While many of our Diversity in Business programs focus efforts on the UNF campus, our External Mentorship initiative matches our students with mentors who already have developed careers. Mid-career mentors are the bridge for many students who need access to the real business world. Groups of minority Coggin College of Business students meet with practicing professionals to get real-world advice, guidance and tips on how to enter the professional world and maintain a productive career. We look for UNF alumni to serve as our mid-career mentors because we realize no one can better connect with Coggin College of Business students.
