The city of Kempten (Allgäu) has 65,000 inhabitants and is situated near the foothills of the Alps in the heart of the Allgäu region. The neighboring countries of Austria, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein are only a good hour away by car as is Munich, the capital of Bavaria. Kempten is in the midst of the mountain and lake region located in the southwest of Bavaria which has a mix of urbanity, rural life, business, entertainment, culture, history, sports, shopping, education, ans sustainability. The Alps, green pastures, and lakes offer unforgettable leisure and sports facilities throughout the year. Skiing in winter, hiking and mountain biking in the summer - there are great ways to spend your time away from your studies. The spectacular landscape is crowned by the fairy-tale castles of King Ludwig II, Neuschwanstein and Hohen-schwangau.

  

About Hochschule Kempten, University of Applied Sciences

Hochschule Kempten was founded back in 1978 with one program of study and 82 students and today, about 5,500 students are enrolled. Currently, Kempten offers a total of 22 Bachelor's and Master's Degree programs with the best career prospects in the fields of Business Administration and Tourism Management, Computer Science and Multimedia, Engineering, and Social and Health Sciences. Kempten University is an international university. Internationalization is considered a cross-sectional task which affects all areas of teaching, further education, applied research, and the administration. University-wide, interdisciplinary support measures for international projects are systematically fostered, and the same goes for encounters with and tolerance for different cultures.

Hochschule Kempten Application Process

Submit the following items directly to the Coggin Study Abroad Office (Building 10, Room 2125) not to the exchange partner or other UNF offices:

DEADLINE: March 15 for fall semester and September 15 for spring semester

Academic Calendar

The fall (or "winter") semester runs from October to February. The spring (or "summer") semester runs from March to July. View Hochschule Kempten's academic calendar. Orientation for all exchange students are held two weeks prior to the start of the semester. The exact dates will be communicated by the incoming exchange student coordinator as soon as you register for your exchange semester at Kempten.

Courses

  • Hochschule Kempten courses
  • Kempten offers an intensive German language course during the orientation weeks for all exchange students. The German language course will take place daily during the orientation weeks and will be continued with four hours per week throughout the semester. Participation in the German language courses is free of charge. Additional to the intensive German course offered during the orientation weeks, Kempten University offers courses in German from the beginner to advanced level. The courses are offered each semester with 4 contact hours per week.

Hochschule Kempten Housing & Cost

Housing

For exchange students, the International Office has reserved a number of rooms in the halls of residence. 30 rooms are available in Zugspitzstrasse and further 8 rooms in Reichlinstrasse .If you would like the Int'l Office to book a room for you, please indicate this in your "Application form for exchange students".

Cost

UNF students participating in a Coggin semester exchange program will pay UNF tuition. Students will be responsible for all other expenses (i.e. flight, meals, housing, etc.). To see an estimated cost for one semester at Kempten, please see the estimated cost documents below.
