S.T.A.R. Program

Skills to Achieve Results

 

The S.T.A.R. Program is a professional development program designed specifically for Coggin College of Business students. The program's focus is on helping students advance their careers through the development of employability and networking skills.

 

To become S.T.A.R. certified, students mist complete all five S.T.A.R.s; this can be done over the course of multiple semesters. Students interested in participating in the S.T.A.R. Program should first create an account in Handshake, UNF's online job opportunity and career events system. Once an account is created, students can register for S.T.A.R. workshops and InterviewPro and take advantage of all the career related opportunities in the system.

 

Students who have completed the S.T.A.R. Program will receive:

  • Certificate of completion
  • S.T.A.R. pin, which you should wear to recruiting events
  • Coggin gift
  • Invitation to attend the S.T.A.R. ceremony and networking event, which is held at the end of every semester for newly certified students

S.T.A.R. 1 | Résumé Writing Workshop

Learn how to create or fine-tune a business résumé, draft executive cover letters and plan your job search.

 

S.T.A.R. 2 | Interviewing and Job Search Workshop

Interviewing for Success: An overview of the interviewing process including preparation strategies, common interview questions and what to do after the interview.

 

To RSVP for a S.T.A.R. 1 or 2 Workshop

Log into Handshake and click Events in the top menu bar, then select Event Search and filter by Owner Coggin College of Business Career Management Center. This will show only our upcoming activities and STAR workshops. Then you may select the title of the event you wish to participate and click the RSVP for Event button.

 

S.T.A.R. 3 | Résumé Critique

Have your résumé reviewed by a CMC staff member in the Career Management Center.

 

To Receive a S.T.A.R. 3 Résumé Critique

Visit the Career Management Center or call (904) 620-2067 to schedule an appointment to have your résumé reviewed in-person at the Career Management Center, building 42, suite 2021.

 

S.T.A.R. 4 | Upload Critiqued Résumé to Osprey CareerLink

Once your résumé has been professionally critiqued, upload it to Handshake under the "My Profile" > "My Documents" tabs.

S.T.A.R. 4 is earned just by uploading your critiqued résumé to Handshake.

 

S.T.A.R. 5 | Mock Interview

Participate in a mock interview, a practice interview with a representative from the Jacksonville business community who will provide you with feedback on your performance.

 

To RSVP for a S.T.A.R. 5 Mock Interview

Log into Handshake and click Jobs in the top menu bar. Select On-Campus Interviews from the sub-menu, then follow these steps:

  • Filter by the word "Coggin"
  • Select the S.T.A.R. 5 Mock Interview date you wish to participate in
  • Click the related job at the bottom titled: Coggin S.T.A.R. 5 Mock Interview
  • Select the "Apply" button for the Coggin S.T.A.R. 5 Mock Interview job posting (this is not a real job)
  • After you submit a fake application, you'll be presented with available timeslots for the mock interview date of your choice. Select only one timeslot.
