From an institutional perspective, the NCFDD Institutional Membership provides a powerful recruitment, retention, and support mechanism for faculty, graduate students, and post-docs, particularly those from under-represented populations. Due to the growing awareness of the substantive nature of our core curriculum, under-represented faculty view NCFDD membership as a positive and tangible sign of a university’s commitment to diversity.
NCFDD teaches empirically documented core skills, NCFDD provides an independent, evaluation-free solution to supporting and mentoring faculty, NCFDD resources are accessible any time, ensuring that faculty have support when they want it or as specific issues arise, NCFDD can complement ongoing faculty development initiatives on campus, and NCFDD provides a focus that is different from traditional teaching and learning centers: on research, writing, and productivity that matters most for tenure and promotion, and securing of grants.
